I have enabled the desktop environment, but my primary usage is to play games.

Is there a way to disable the automatic boot into the desktop and keep booting as it was, into ES?

Additionally, I'd like to launch the desktop environment from ES, or at least been able to quit ES using only a keyboard. Is this possible?

      Thanks!

If you installed the desktop environment via retropie-setup, there should be an item in emulationstation -> Ports to launch lxde.

As for quitting ES with a keyboard, you have to configure it in the controls menu of ES. Then, to exit press the key you assigned to [start], and select "quit" with the key you assigned to [A]

@eridal if you installed lxde as described here: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/FAQ#where-did-the-desktop-go

The script will automatically set it to boot to EmulationStation.

You can also change the boot settings in raspi-config or as you found you can set booting to EmulationStation in the setup script.

Here's how I make it work:

              1. setup keyboard as an input (this could be done by default)
              2. exit emulationstation
              3. run startx
              4. ???
              5. profit

              :)

              Thanks!

For detailed instructions on setting the Boot Options to boot to the console rather than the desktop, please see:
