I am a newbie here to Rasberry Pi and RetroPie. Purchased a Pi 3 from Ebay preloaded with several emulators and RetroPie ( I don't know what version or how to find out). After some heavy internet reading, I was able to get all my NES and SNES ROM loaded and they all play fine on RetroPie. But I want to get PC Engine/Turbo Grafix Games Working. On my current Emulation Station setup, there was no Icon for PC Engine. So here is what I did:

      1. I searched and found a place I could download syscard3.pce ("palms") - no idea what version it is but I downloaded it as a .zip and extracted.

      2. Put the syscard3.pce (lowercase) in the BIOS folder in RetroPie

      3. Tried restarting the system and the icon did not show up on Emulation Station

      4. Added the syscard3.pce to the Roms path - PC Engine icon now shows in Emulation Station!

Question 1: Does this mean the Emulator is now installed?

      1. I downloaded ROMS from a site that all my other ROMS were from that work - all these roms have .PCE extension - unzipped and put them in RetroPie PCEngine ROMS folder

No matter what ROM I try, the screen goes to black and none of the ROMS play. What am I doing wrong/missing here?

Any help would be greatlu appreciated. This is my favorite system :(

Please see https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first when requesting support. Supplying information about retropie version and other information helps us to help you.

It is installed - it's not working because you either have the wrong bios or the file is not named correctly.

Did you read https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/PC-Engine ? Check the md5sum of the bios, and make sure it is named exactly as listed - the filename is case sensitive

I figured it out myself. I was running the wrong emulator. The games don't work with Medafand emulator. I switched to the beetle one and the games play.

I have the same issues, can you please explain how you changed the emulator. Where is the log for me to see exactly what is being reported?

I am stuck, what exactly would you like to know? I was reading this https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/PC-Engine

Under manage main packages both lr-bettle-pce-fast and lr-bettle-supergrafx both say installed

                  From the command line pi@retropie:~/RetroPie/roms/pcengine $ md5sum syscard3.pce
ff1a674273fe3540ccef576376407d1d syscard3.pce. The MD5 lines up with the first listing under working bios w/o a region.

The bios file exist in both roms folder as you can see above and /RetroPie/bios folder

When I attempt to launch the bios file or any rom (file format .pce) I get a black screen after a few seconds.

I have run an update all packages. I see EmulationStation 2.1.2RP

If there was a log I could be guided possibly it could help.

when posting support issues/help, its good to post the specs for the Hardware you are using and RetroPie version etc, otherwise its like shooting in the dark sonetimes

                    RPi 3 - RetroPie + 500gb HDD [consoles] + Razer Onza Tournament
                    RPi 3 - RetroPie + 32gb USB [computers] + Keyboard
both with AttractMode + FuzzBoxx Layout

I have a pi3 and the retropi setup screen says VER 4.1.10 at the top.
