Hey Folks, I know this has been done to death (if you search I started a thread many moons ago on the same topic) Anyway - after a break from RetroPie I came back to it and Im struggling with AdvanceMame 1.4 again - my trackball isnt working!

Here are the pertanent parts of my config from the /opt/... .rc file :

      device_mouse raw
      device_raw_firstkeyhack no
      device_raw_mousedev[0] /dev/input/mouse0
      device_raw_mousedev[1] /dev/input/mouse1
      device_raw_mousedev[2] /dev/input/mouse2
      device_raw_mousedev[3] auto
      device_raw_mousetype[0] ps2
      device_raw_mousetype[1] ps2
      device_raw_mousetype[2] ps2
      device_raw_mousetype[3] pnp

      input_map[p1_trackballx] mouse[0,x]
      input_map[p1_trackbally] mouse[0,y]

(ive cat /dev/input/mouse0 and its definitely mouse0). I have tried addiding the full plethora of mouse[0,x] mouse[1,x] etc etc too.

Anyone got any thoughts? Whats changed? Im stumped. Ive tried USB Mice, Trackpads and my trackball - advancemame seems to be ignoring me! lol

Any help, as always, gratefully received,

      Mark

@Chitownsparky If you haven't gone through it, the Spinners and Trackballs wiki takes all of the important/relevant details from multiple posts and compiles them into a detailed step-by-step that explains everything, especially for using AdvanceMAME.

Ok - the Wiki is fine and explains everything you need for AdvanceMame. The issue was all of my own making..

In advanceMame's TAB menu I was looking to configure analogue X and Y for games such as Missile Command etc but no matter what I did it wouldnt see Mouse0 - or any mouse type HID device in Mame. However, had I tried to actually USE the trackball in the game, irrespective of this, I would have found it was working perfectly! Very Embarrassing.

The changes described in the WIKI for the AdvanceMame.RC config files are spot on - no question. Just dont forget to modify both if you plan to use both versions of the emulator.

It's good feedback, actually. I tried to write that wiki to be as clear and thorough as possible. You can definitely make your sensitivity adjustments in the GUI, but I should add to the description that you won't be able to make any mouse selections there--just know that they do work if properly configured in the .rc file. That's worth adding, as it might have saved you some time.

@caver01 I dunno - at some point I must have configured it like that - a year or so ago.....I guess most sensible folks would try the mouse out in the game itself before hacking through the advancemame config over and over! ....nvm
