@obsidianspider
Thanks!
There are a lot of things I would make otherwise, first of all the Powerswitch. Then I would like to solder all the cables directly onto the Pi Zero. And I'd like to use the volume button in some sort.
The case was part of the subscription box "Arcade Block" for the month of september...you may find it on ebay or here: https://www.shirtpunch.com/sega-genesis-usb-hub

Darn it, this is just too awesome. I just found one of those hubs on eBay and bought it. I wonder how hard it is to put a Pi 3 in there. It's been done with desoldering the USB ports and Ethernet jack, but I wonder if you have to to do that.

@Roliwood73, Since you're a big Mega Drive/Genesis fan you may want to check out @Rookervik's awesome Sega-inspired splash screens. I just added the Sonic video splash to mine while I wait for my hub to arrive.

Did Sega market "Genesis" or "Megadrive" to Switzerland? I thought just North America got the "Genesis".

Awesome project by the way!

@backstander
here in Switzerland it was the Megadrive. But for my project, since the case was branded "Genesis", I called it the Sega Genesis Classic Mini ;-)

Thanks, I already seen that and I changed it a little to make my own Splashscreen:

@Roliwood73

here in Switzerland it was the Megadrive.

That is what I was thinking but since I'm from the US, I think it would be cool to have a official Megadrive console because they're so rare here. I could see others from other parts of the world wanting a Genesis :)

Thanks, I already seen that and I changed it a little to make my own Splashscreen:

Awesome splashscreen! I see that you remember the EmulationStation splash as well!

I bought a couple of these for xmas presents, did you guys order them from ShirtPunch? (that was the only site I found them on). Have you heard anything back? 5 days later and silence...just wondering if I'm actually going to get these before Christmas (and I need time to dremel and install everything!!!)

@Dochartaigh When I was looking around online I saw less than stellar comments about Shirtpunch so I bought mine on eBay. It should be here in a few days.

@edmaul69 Oh yeah?! Well, um, is yours coming with a Super Mario magnet?! ;) (Seller had it for sale separately, and hey, it's Mario.)

@edmaul69 No way. You bought two! I'm only getting one.

For now.

@edmaul69 Any ideas for what you're going to do with the volume slider? I already know I'm going to make the power switch work, but I'm not sure what useful thing I could make the volume slider control.

@obsidianspider this thing is a double win. It can be used as a pi and a usb hub. I was searching for retro usb hubs the other day and the only decent one was like a round button part of a super nintendo controller. Then this was posted.

I'd just ordered a Radica Megadrive for my next Pi project. Looks like I might put that on hold and get this case instead. It would be nice if they made a Megadrive version tho.

My hub just arrived today. This thing is so cool!

Here's a photo next to a Pi3 and Pi Zero for comparison.
0_1481312612181_genesis-hub.jpg

For those curious its dimensions are:

~130mm wide
~100mm deep
~30mm thick at the top of the round part (cartridge slot)

It appears to be a true USB 2.0 hub, high speed, not a cheap knockoff hub.

Plugged into the top left port of my Pi 3:

lsusb -t
/:  Bus 01.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=dwc_otg/1p, 480M

GRR YOU GUYS SUCK!!! Now I went and orderd mine from ShirtPunch too. Ya'll got me amped up, then I read further that you guys are reporting bad outcomes with them. I wonder if I should cancel my order. IN either case, it'll be fun to see what I can do with it.

So the power switch... is it just a switch that doesn't DO anything? Like, just for show, and I'll actually have to find a switch somewhere to put in it's place? What about the RESET button, does it move at all? I'm also curious about the power requirements of the Sega emulators. Can the Pi-Zero run Master System, Genesis, 32X, and CD? If not, I'll have to get a Pi3 (local shop doesn't even sell Pi2 anymore). Lastly, how are you guys planning on powering it? Obviously you need to dremel out something for the HDMI, but what about the power? I'd want to run it via a wall outlet rather than have to plug a USB into something. That is, unless I can some how power it from the USB IN on my TV.

Who's Scruffy Looking?
