Pi Zero / Sega Genesis Classic Mini

@obsidianspider mine will be her tomorrow. :)
-
@edmaul69 Oh yeah?! Well, um, is yours coming with a Super Mario magnet?! ;) (Seller had it for sale separately, and hey, it's Mario.)
-
@obsidianspider you win...
-
@edmaul69 No way. You bought two! I'm only getting one.
For now.
-
@edmaul69 Any ideas for what you're going to do with the volume slider? I already know I'm going to make the power switch work, but I'm not sure what useful thing I could make the volume slider control.
-
@obsidianspider this thing is a double win. It can be used as a pi and a usb hub. I was searching for retro usb hubs the other day and the only decent one was like a round button part of a super nintendo controller. Then this was posted.
-
Can you break this down step by step on a blog or web page Roland, this is fantastic!!
-
Awesome work!
I'd just ordered a Radica Megadrive for my next Pi project. Looks like I might put that on hold and get this case instead. It would be nice if they made a Megadrive version tho.

My hub just arrived today. This thing is so cool!
Here's a photo next to a Pi3 and Pi Zero for comparison.
For those curious its dimensions are:
~130mm wide
~100mm deep
~30mm thick at the top of the round part (cartridge slot)It appears to be a true USB 2.0 hub, high speed, not a cheap knockoff hub.
Plugged into the top left port of my Pi 3:

GRR YOU GUYS SUCK!!! Now I went and orderd mine from ShirtPunch too. Ya'll got me amped up, then I read further that you guys are reporting bad outcomes with them. I wonder if I should cancel my order. IN either case, it'll be fun to see what I can do with it.
So the power switch... is it just a switch that doesn't DO anything? Like, just for show, and I'll actually have to find a switch somewhere to put in it's place? What about the RESET button, does it move at all? I'm also curious about the power requirements of the Sega emulators. Can the Pi-Zero run Master System, Genesis, 32X, and CD? If not, I'll have to get a Pi3 (local shop doesn't even sell Pi2 anymore). Lastly, how are you guys planning on powering it? Obviously you need to dremel out something for the HDMI, but what about the power? I'd want to run it via a wall outlet rather than have to plug a USB into something. That is, unless I can some how power it from the USB IN on my TV.

It doesn't do anything, but it does slide. I'm looking for a good switch to use. I have a photo of the inside of the case on my thread.

It's part of the top of the case and is painted. It does not move.
-
Bummer about the RESET button. Finding a sliding switch for the power shouldn't be too difficult.
-
I had to quickly go pick up one of those Genesis hubs (they're sold out, now... boo...).
I'm having problems prying it apart. I removed the four screws, but the front of the case still seems to be held together tightly by... something. I don't want to break anything before I even get started. Any ideas?
I'm thinking that a Raspberry Pi 3 is going to be a tight fit...
-
@MistahJones they are three posts. When i pulled mine apart they snapped. No biggie. They arent needed. If they are gonna break, theyre gonna break. You dont have too much choice in the matter.
-
Yup, see that now. Cracked it open - time to get to work on finding a switch, and determining whether to use a Pi Zero, or Pi 3. ^_^
-
@MistahJones I'm installing the zero since I'm only gonna do sega. Are you going to plug the USB hub to USB or wire the USB to gpio directly? How do you plan on turning the unit on and off?
-
@antricluc look in the thread started by obsidionspider and you will see what way i did the switch and he will be posting what he does
