When ever I fire up the pi it starts up as usual but after the white screen that says emulation station, it gets stuck on a terminal like screen only. It shows date, time, ip, temp etc… plus keyboard won't work. Any ideas

Hi, I have the same problem excepting that keyboard works properly:

          Pi Model: B1 (first model)
          RetroPie Version Used: 4.01
Built From: Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website
USB Devices connected: Keyboard, Xbox controller
          Controller used: Xbox controller
          Error messages received: No errors

How to replicate the problem: I started RetroPie, compiled RetroArt from the Emulation station menu and applied update, rebooted and Retropie just showed terminal screen, I runed Retropie setup script and selected in the script start Emulation station on boot, saved changes, rebooted and RetroPie still boot get stucked in terminal. I found no solution so I'm installing RetroPie again, any help regarding how to solve this without reinstalling would be welcome.

@xpheres Since you've got a keyboard hooked up, try running emulationstation manually and let us know what messages (if any) are displayed.

              Which one?

Also, have you got roms installed? Are there many? Do you have Save Metadata enabled? What power supply are you using?

Make sure you have started from the correct RetroPie image. Emulationstation will crash if you run the rpi2/rpi3 version on a rpi1 - check how many raspberries you have on boot at the top left.

Hi everyone, thanks for the answers, I formated the sd card and reinstalled RetroPie and the problem has not happened again... I think something went wrong when I installed several themes or updated the software. If it happens again I will copy the logs but now everything is allright.

I guess it was not a good idea to test all themes with the first model of raspberry, I'm considering upgrading to a better hardware...

                  Thanks :)
