NES Cropping/Overscan Issue
-
@edmaul69 If you're talking about video_crop_overscan = false I already tried that but thanks.
-
Also, it tried nestopia and it fixed mario, but the bottom is still cropping.
-
@dover19
Edit: pic of how much is cutoff on all 4 sides. Read my next post -
@dover19 i just noticed it is cut off on all 4 sides. you need to adjust the overscan in /boot/config.txt
-
Actually that only affects EmulationStation, it never seems to affect the emulators. Also, what seems like black bars all around is just my black tv.
-
@dover19 On my pi it affects everything. Overscan is a system level setting.
-
I'm actually using overscan though, got the top and bottom at -16 cause I had black bars, but like I said, it only seems to affect the front-end.
-
@dover19 trust me, its your whole system. I noticed there are no black bars on the side. Thats why i know this is the problem. Change to a theme that has no black borders. Then set all 4 overscans to -25 so you see black on all 4 sides. Then start going down by increments of 5 until you get close to the edge. Then reduce down in increments of 1. Note that the sides and top/bottom might be different numbers.
-
Is your
overscan_scale=
set to1
in/boot/config.txt
? -
@edmaul69 so I followed these instructions and ended up with:
overscan_left=0
overscan_right=0
overscan_top=-19
overscan_bottom=-19
Also, yes my
overscan_scale
is set to1
.Still though, it's cut at the bottom while playing NES. I see no difference whatsoever.
I'm sure I've seen before and I seem to remember having to put some code in the NES configuration.
-
@dover19 yeah not sure. I never had to add anything other than the overscan. So if you look at my pic you will see the top is getting cut off too.
-
I was finally able to fix this!
In case anyone else is going crazy playing with the boot overscan options and not getting anywhere with the NES cropping issue, here's what I had to do:
Edit the
retroarch-core-options.cfg
file located in/opt/retropie/configs/all
.Depending on what NES core you're using edit either
fceumm_overscan = "enabled "
ornestopia_overscan_v = "enabled "
. Obviously, changeenabled
todisabled
. -
@dover19 note you don't have to do this manually - it can be changed from within RGUI when in a game.
