I just got Retropie this morning and I was loving it. I wanted to play some classic arcade games so I loaded in some ROMs. I tried to play 5 different games and each of them would just return me to the MAME menu. I tried moving the ROMs to different MAME emulators but that didn't help. I have no idea what's wrong. All of my other games, on different emulators work just fine. I've reinstalled RetroPie 3 times with no change in results. All help is appreciated. Thanks!

      Built From: retropie-v3.7-rpi1_zero.img.
      USB Devices connected: PS3 Controller
      Emulator: MAME

You can't just use a random ROM even if it's in the right emulator folder, a lot use parent ROMS and wont work without them. You should get a ROMset for whichever verson of mame you want to use or rebuild for that set.
Here is the MAME wiki so you know what ROMs work for which emulator and where they go

And here is how to rebuild them and the DAT files to use
