Boot directly into game

I'm guessing I'm not the first to attempt this (though I promise, I did search the wiki and the forum first before posting), but I'm trying to recreate an arcade experience by booting directly into the game. I considered the MAME route, but I'm using an NES emulator/ROM. I'm ok with the command line boot up stuff and event the RetroPie splash, but from there (at least) I'd like it to load the ROM.
Anyone have any ideas?
