I get no sound from the HDMI
-
@MrWilliam932 How did you force the sound output to HDMI? Did you edit
/boot/config.txt
? -
@obsidianspider first from Raspi-config and then from the retropie config
-
Look for this in
/boot/config.txt
# uncomment to force a HDMI mode rather than DVI. This can make audio work in # DMT (computer monitor) modes #hdmi_drive=2
If it's not already, uncomment the
hdmi_drive=2
line, save, and reboot. You should have sound over HDMI now. -
@obsidianspider Thank you a lot it worked !!!

@obsidianspider Hi everyone...I am new here and am having the same issue.
I searched the issue on Google.. assuming its a known problem and here I am.The bad news is, I am not at all familiar with any type of Linux command line work that you're showing and describing.
Is there any way possible one kind soul could post a step-by-step "For Noobs" process?I have RPI 3 with Retropie 4.1 HDMI to a samsung UHD tv (if that makes a difference)
Visually things work...no audio output at all.If the answer to my query has already been posted, I apologize. I did search before posting...
Thanks and Happy new year! -

@Stillers A pretty easy way is to go into the retropie gui menu select file manager, then it's kinda like old school dos. hit the ".." to go to the root. From there you can select the config .txt file and hit the hotkey for edit ( I don't recall what this is off the top of my head, but you can see it on the screen) from there select nano, scroll down and remove the # and then exit, it will ask you if you want to save first, hit Y then reboot. This did the trick for me.

I had this exact same problem and made the change easily using the nano editor. Now, I have no clue now HDMI audio got fouled up after working for a couple of weeks... but regardless, it was a nice surprise to see this very topic addressed here just when I needed it :) Cheers!

Hi Thanks for this. I am in the config.txt and uncommented (deleted the #) for the HDMI line...
Stupid question #100 is...how do you save and exit? I can't figure this one out??? -
Hopefully I am catching you, you want to select the write out function which is the ^O or alt+o then select the same file name which should be listed, then Y for yes to overwrite
-
Thanks...i think I screwed something up.
There are 5 different config.txt.save files...Let me if i can get to what you're saying. ty.

@Stillers and I can't edit the config file any longer. Says Bash: 4: command not found . The games work...do i need to reinstall everything from scratch?
