I've just recently worked out an issue with my button configuration, where it seems my hotkeys were no longer functioning. Now that I've got that sorted (thanks to users on this forum for suggesting my fix on that), I'm having an issue with performing the load_state function in N64. It seems I can save state, as a .st0 file appears in my rom folder. However, on pressing the key combination to load state, I am forced back to the menu screen of EmulationStation.

At this time, there is no log in /dev/shm to refer to, and I've confirmed the button combination using grep -R load_state_btn /opt/retropie/configs/all as being button "8" on my PS3 controller (which translates to the L2 button).

Would someone please assist me in troubleshooting this further?

Apologies, I thought I'd performed a fix that I actually didn't end up performing. I set mupen64plus_audio=0 at /opt/retropie/configs/all/autoconf.cfg, and load state now works. Received the fix from here: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3897/solved-pi3-retropie-4-0-2-some-n64-games-crash-when-trying-to-load-state-using-any-of-the-mupen64plus-video-plugins/5
