Retropie-Login required when offline(?)

Hi there!
I hope i can explain my Problem, english is not my native language ;)
First of all: thanks to the developers for this great great Project - i´ve been concerned with Computer-/Videogames since 1986 starting with an Apple //e and simply love retropie!I´m working with Retropie since one year and managed to solve every problem till now.
I learned basic linux-commands, wrote scripts (DosBox - to get rid of folders), recompiled sources (ScummVM - to change input mapping), edited gamelists to get rid of the *.cue-files in the PSX-list and so on...But finally i got an issue where i´ve got no idea how to manage it and hope you can help me.
I realized that the behavior of the boot-process is different when i remove the ethernet-cable from the Raspberry-Pi.
No Splash-Screen is shown and i´m asked to enter a password for retropie :/
After a few seconds emulations-Station is loaded even without entering a Password - but the prompt disturbes the whole thing because the cursor keeps blinking in Background :/What can i do to get rid of the password-prompt?
It would be great if i could use Retropie even without internet-connection and never had these problems with a Pi2 and Retropie 3.5 (actually using a Pi3 and Retropie 4.01)Thanks a lot and regards from germany!

@rbaker thanks for the advise
I think you mean to disable the Root-Password in the "sshd_config" as the faq recommends.
Well...it is disabled, i never ever enabled it!
It seems to enable automatically as soon as i remove the Internet Connection (for sure by unplugging the Ethernet-cable, i never used WLAN)!
And in the end i even don´t have to enter any Password, Emulation-Station boots up but the blinking Cursor in the Background is annoying.
As soon as the Ethernet-Cable is plugged in again the password-prompt is gone with the wind and everything works fine :/ -
@sirhenrythe5th Have you added the lines recommended in the above links? You need to post some configs as recommended in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first
