@meleu done.

Wow ! Just what I've been looking for. Awesome work here ! Fits people that have built an arcade cabinet like me without losing valuable screen space (TVs in arcade cabinet canot go much bigger than around 28").
Well it hasn't been asked yet but I'm sure a "Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition" overlay would be extremely popular ! Here is my vote for what it's worth ! Keep em coming anyway ! I plan to use them all (after figuring how hehe).

Ho, I see the cfg files for those overlays are pre-configured for 1080p screens... I guess I will run into problems if my screen native resolution is 1366x768 ? Would you know how to adjust easily or each overlay would be different ? Thanks in advance.

I also have an older TV that runs RetroPie in 1366x768 and these overlays look great without any editing!

@backstander Good to know. As cfg tells to use full screen I think what happens is that overlay image is reduced by libretro to fit.

Astro Blaster also added to Overlay Repository.

Sweet you did me a solid on that one!
-
@mviars I made it months ago and noticed you mentioned it.
One of the reasons of the Repository is to have them all in one place and make it easy for people to see all that are available instead of having the overlays spread in different threads.
Will place all my already available overlays there soon. -

Subfolders of the specific game folder called "Option x" (x is num of the optional overlay) ?
I'm OK with this convention. ;-)
Burning Force Artwork pack "converted" to new naming. First case with additonal "Option 1" folder.

City Connection and Pang now also in the Overlay Repo.
-
With Vanguard, Metal Slug 2, The Simpsons, Athena, Aliens and Scion,
Overlays Repo now contains all so far available overlays. -

@UDb23 It's good to see the repo very populated! :-)
I'll try to work on the script soon! Thanks for all your artwork! -
Nr. 11 - Phoenix
Based on original cabinet side art. -
Concerning Asteroids, the only one missing from the Poll list, the best core to play is AdvanceMame as it supports line drawing in full 1080p resolution.
This means there's no need (almost no space) for an overlay.
On the other hand it's nice to add a background as explained by @caver01 (thanks!) in his thread on how to make arcade vector games look their best.

Thanks for the callout. Actually, this example is Asteroids Deluxe which animates the rocks a little better than the original, but the gameplay is somewhat different with the goofy cluster enemies, shields, etc. The gameplay in
astdelux
is not for everyone. That said, there are overlays for both, and you can get them running in AdvanceMAME. However, you won't find those details in my early thread about vector games as I don't really use them on 4:3 games. The originalasteroid
artwork does have some interesting shapes that obscure areas of the screen a little. If you like that sort of thing, you can find the appropriate files online that work with AdvanceMAME's artwork function. As it applies to this thread, we are talking about BEZEL art. In AdvanceMAME, this is all controlled with artwork for romset .106 which are zip files. You can edit the details of how it all works by unzipping the artwork files, editing the .art text file, and so on. Once you get into them you will see what I mean. It's a different animal than using retroarch overlays. -
@caver01 Thanks for the detailed info. I "studied" the old mame . art overlay file format months ago and did some test: it's a big headache to implement things as you want them (more details here).
That's probably why the .lay format was introduced with later version of mame.
Lr-mame2010 supports .lay but becomes too slow when using overlays with the Pi.
