Hi, I recently bought a SainSmart 3.5" LCD screen off ebay, and followed the instructions on the Notro git page. The FTBT drivers installed successfully and the screen works, no white screen of death or anything. However, the screen seems to have very poor refresh rate on RetroPie, it only seems to refresh a couple times a second, and you can actually see the pixels drawing themselves row by row because it is so slow.

In the /boot/config.txt setup I set the refresh rate as 36000000, fps = 50 and debug = 32. 36000000 was the maximum refresh rate without causing the colours to mess up. I have tried setting the resolution to 320*240 in the HDMI settings but that didn't help either. I tried the same thing with composite, but nothing changed.

Is there a way to get the screen running at full speed or is the larger screen just pushing the pi 3 too far?
I am using Retropie 4.0.2 with a Pi3 with the RP image provided on the website and the official power supply.

@jb32647 i have 2 waveshares that have not been used because we read the refresh rate was really bad. So we just bought some $15 backup monitors that was recommended in the gbz (gameboy zero) threads on sudo mods. They work great.

@edmaul69 I have seen the reverse camera route, and I know that works, and apparently 240p 3.2" piTFTs work well, but I want to avoid spending more money.

@jb32647 i would love to find out if the waveshares can run 60fps. I hate that they are just hanging around.

@jb32647 Just a suggestion lads but you might have more luck and responses for this issue on the Raspberry Pi forum or on the sub reddit. It's really a hardware issue rather than a specific RetroPie issue. Not being rude, I hope you understand, just trying to point you in the appropriate direction.

@tikiandskull lucky for me i pulled my lcd screens and they are waveshare 3.2's. Bad news is in the move across the country one of the screens got shattered. So now i will have to see if this will be big enough for a game boy.

@edmaul69 I have a waveshare 3.2 and if I remember correctly (I will verify tonight), it is too wide to enter the gameboy ... or it must be placed vertically and there, the screen loses its interest .

@tikiandskull i am dremeling off the button section of the board and running wires to relocate the buttons. The buttons probably wont ever get used but i am going to keep them.
