Pixel Theme
-
UPDATED: February 4th, 2017
Added Mega-CD, Megadrive 32x, and moved European systems to their own folders. Also updated Atari 2600 logo.Previous Update:
With the new year brings a pixel update! I've updated ALL of the console logos to look much more polished than they were. Many have changed and many have been enlarged.Due to the large number of people using the assets in this theme and not giving credit, I have changed the license of this pixel update. I've spent well over 150 hours creating the graphics for this theme. You might not realize it, but there are over 80 systems included in the theme. That's a lot of pixel :D Please do not use these new graphics in a theme you plan to publish. All artwork is copyrighted. Metapixel can continue using the previous logos. Any new art I would appreciate if you would not use it in your themes or projects.
Also! Don't forget that there are pixel-themed icons to replace the default RetroPie box art located in
./retropie/icons
. Please feel free to copy these to/home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/scriptmodules/supplementary/retropiemenu/icons
and they will show up in the RetroPie menu instead of the others. An example of the icons is the 3rd picture down.And as usual, there are 2 splash screens located in the root of the theme you can use for your system if you so desire. They are updated with more colors just as the rest of the logos.
I'll be updating the console images next as well as making the "tetris" look a little less harsh. Also, will be adding Video Previews after that version of ES is included in the main download of Retropie.
Please allow a few minutes (an hour? haha) for me to get the theme uploaded to github.

this theme is an all time fave, bring on the jaggies! Thanks for bringing us this.

Love this theme, I have a desktop system category also on my emulationstation, is there any way you can make a pixel theme for that system on here to?
-
this is cool! love it!
-
favourite theme! thanks so much :) did you ever get around to the euro super nintendo image/logo?
-
I would love to show this splash screen (on a high definition) before the amazing pixel theme:
-
My favorite theme and the one I use, your work is awesome!!!!!

@dankcushions
I think I worked on it. I know I made the Super Famicom separately. The European SNES logo is the same as the American logo. I remember someone checking their SNES and noticed the logo was the same, even though they thought it was different. So if the European SNES looks like the SFC, just use the SFC system. Then you can move around logos if you need. -
@Aliendon
You can easily make any system you want. Just copy a system and make a couple adjustments to the XML. Choose whichever system has the colors you want for desktop. Then you just need to make a couple of icons. I wouldn't know what icons to make. I just launch the desktop from the ports menu. What is included in your desktop menu? -
Do you have any plans to merge this theme with the 'child friendly' Emulation station? I've tried myself but it always seems to crash for me.
-
@General_Toxic
I don't have a version of Child Friendly ES to edit the theme for. It will require removing the flair text and the console images to make room for the icons. So, basically a theme re-design. And each of the 60+ system XMLs will have to be edited. That's... a lot of work. LOL. Unless it's an OMG we HAVE TO HAVE THIS I'd rather not work on it yet. I have looked into it. I will definitely make the changes if RetroPie moves to make Child Friendly the default ES.Also, making the changes for Child Friendly would make large blank areas for non-child-friendly, other distros, and windows and linux versions of EmulationStation. So I'd actually need to fork my own theme and maintain 2 separate themes. One for regular ES, and one for Child Friendly -_-

I think the tags at the top of the xml file are different too, have a look at each of them, changing them may make it work, but you won't have the added extras for kid-friendly....
but there's a high possibility it may break itedit: if I remember correctly there's an xml version number in the top tags of each xml file of the theme

I left the laziness behind and did a googleimages search, and found the splash screen (1920 x 1080) to perfectly match with pixel theme. Guess where?! petrockblock.com (d'oh!)

@administrators can you please make this image an "official" splash screen?

Thank you for your help. Best theme ever. The only thing in my desktop section is just the Desktop sh file to launch me straight to XFCE since i didnt care for LXDE. didnt know how to make the word desktop pixelated but still works for now.
-
@Aliendon
Ah yeah, I totally just threw XFCE in my Ports section. Way easier (and less systems to have to scroll through). LOL. Looks good tho. Used the DOS pixel art ^_^. Nicely done.I made a boot splash image on the old forum. Haven't linked it here. Little less blocky than that one.
Massive pixels are a little distracting :PHere's a pixellated Desktop image if you want to use it. Made a gradient so you can be sure to see it on a dark background.

@Rookervik
Thank you so much, you absolutely Rock. Will apply them to the theme in tomorrow and take a pic and post it. went with the blue background instead of the black one, looks way better now, i had XFCE in my ports section but just wanted some thing different and had way to many things in the port section, keep up the good work and thank you again. -

@InsecureSpike @Rookervik
I believe the term is 'do'h'Just realized kid friendly mode does work with any theme, but it's only if you want the extra UI options you need to edit all the XML files...
