MAME Issues - RetroPie - Can't get games to work.
-
Hey all, I am admittedly a newbie here, and am frustrated. I've just gotten and set up a Rasberry Pi3 system, and I can't get any MAME roms to work, and am hoping for some direct assistance.
I used the RetroPie Project SD card image to start.
My Pi box seems up and running ok, I have tested Atari2600, NES, and Gameboy roms with success.
However, when trying to use the mame4all (or any of the Mame emulators) - I get "File missing" errors when the games attempt to launch.I have gone through the clrmamepro rebuilding tutorial and process, and have rebuilt the roms to the 0.37b5 set, and nothing still works. I am hoping someone has had a similar problem or knows of an easy fix.
Googling this comes up with none much in the way of help, and going through the RetroPie steps - I haven't really come up with anything else I am doing wrong. If anyone can point me in the right direction, i'd appreciate it.
Thanks,

@LevelsAndGear - First.. are you using MAME4ALL as the MAME choice? If you are then follow along...
I can't/won't tell you were to get the entire .37b5 Romset... but it's out there.
Google it and find it. Took me about 20 mins. Once you do, your problem will be solved. Your ROMset doesn't match... yes I read what you wrote, but take it from a longtime MAME user (I had one of the original releases back in '99/00)... just because you run clrmamepro doesn't mean they'll work.
Try what I suggested first, then come back. Remember to put all ROMs in the MAME4ALL folder in the ROM directory. If you are trying to use another emulator for MAME you might need a different ROMset.
I hope that helps a little... BTW... for some of the older games you'll need the sound samples as well. Those go in the same directory at the ROMs... but in a folder called 'samples'

Cool, I'll give it a whirl and see what I can come up with. Thanks much. ;)

The only real drawback to the .37b5 ROMset is, well... it's really old. It dates back to 2003?
I just checked my orginal MAME cd... jeeze... 1997... WTF!?!? .. 19 years ago... wow!!!

Thanks Jam. I got things up and running... And yea, I haven't messed a lot with Mame lately, but all of my experience was basically with Mame32 in Windows and frontends like that, that didn't seem to be quite as picky with the ROMset.
Thanks for the help.

@jamrom2 which romset is the newest?

MAME is up to .0173 now. I threw in the towel around .145.
I have 3 MAME cabinets, each running the same ROMset. 2 uprights, and 1 cafe.
It just got to a point that I didn't see a reason to upgrade anymore. I only run retro stuff anyway, all games from the 80's and early 90's. After a while, they all start to look the same. How many clones can you have of one game?JR
