Hello everyone! This is my first time using retropie and after a few days of tinkering about I found pisnes to be the best emulator for snes. (Only one that doesn't stutter for me) However, I can't figure out for the life of me how to update it! I read on a forum somewhere else that PiSnes now has support for start-select exiting with a controller but I have tried updating from both binaries and source and nothing changes. Read that it had to be done manually and that you simply had to delete old files and replace with new files in pisnes folder but that only broke it. Other than that I have no idea how. I don't want to keep looking for my keyboard every time I have to exit the emulator so that is a feature I very much want. Like I said, I'm new to both retropie and linux so please be very specific with any instructions.

      Thank you!

      I'm using:
      Raspberry Pi Zero version 1.3
      5v 2A micro usb charger
      Retropie v 4.1.9
      64 Gb samsung micro sd
Built from pre made retropie image on this website
Conected to amazon basics usb hub with usb snes controller and wifi dongle

I ran into this the other day. After some googling it turns out the default input configuration is for xbox controllers which did't work for me (using 8bitdo).

You need to edit /opt/retropie/emulators/pisnes/snes9x.cfg and manually configure the inputs. You can test your controller to get the right numbers using

        jstest /dev/input/js0

To reduce conflicts I set the values for QUIT,ACCEL,QLOAD,QSAVE, and LEFT,RIGHT,UP,DOWN 1 and 2 to numbers around 100.

Edit: Realized I was just parroting the official documentation about it: https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/super-nintendo-entertainment-system#pisnes
