Retropie copies games from external USB to SD card

Hello
Can anyone tell me why my retropie copies the games I got on my USB stick to the SD card? When I remove the USB and restart retropie without the USB I can still see the games and play them. This keeps happening and completely using all the free storage space on my SD card, so I can't scrape any game as there is no room on SD card.
Is there an way to turn off the future so the games are not copied from external USB to SD card.

@Senri Because you have put everything in a "retropie" folder - turn off the usb rom service or use another folder name.

just create a new foldername on USB stick? instead of retropie call it something else??
And I have tried to turn off the usb rom service, but when I do that the games don't show up when I plug in the USB. just empty retropie

@Senri yes. Having a folder "retropie" will trigger the usb rom service to copy the roms off. How are you mounting the usb stick ?

Power Supply used: iphone charger
RetroPie Version Used (3.6, 3.8.1, 4.01 etc.. - do not write latest):4.1
Built From: (Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website,
USB Devices connected: usb 16 gb kingston
Controller used: xbox 360
Error messages received: None
Log found in /dev/shm/runcommand.log (if relevant):
Guide used: (Mention if you followed a guide)
File: (File with issue - with FULL path)
Emulator: (Name of emulator - if applicable)Installed retropie on a SD card, plugged in an USB with a folder in root called retropie so it could make folders for roms etc. If I rename that folder to anything else the retropie does not recognize it, when I plug it in the raspberry
When pluggin in the USB with the roms on it, retropie copies all the roms to SD card. filling it up.
Tried to disable the rom service, but then it does not pick up the USB which is connected at all. - shows no games.
How I am mounting the usb stick ?

I've been reading the advice about running roms from usb stick it's quite straight forward but the problem is I do not know how to Re-Enable the USB ROM Transfer Service.

is this what u are suggesting:
Automatic Mount (Easiest Method)
As of December 30, 2016 a simple automated method was added to run roms from a USB drive.
First Update the RetroPie Setup Script
Re-Enable the USB ROM Transfer Service
Format your USB drive to FAT32 per directions above
Create a folder called retropie-mount on the USB drive
Plug into Raspberry Pi
It will proceed to automatically copy the RetroPie folder AND all of its contents (you may need to reboot to start the copying)
NOTE if you have a large ROM collection already on the SD card it will copy all of the ROMs too so make sure your USB is large enough. It is easiest if you haven't added any roms yet.Once the folder structure is copied over the USB will be mounted over the RetroPie folder so any ROMs you add to your pi will be run off of the USB.
I have one question though. it says ''First Update the RetroPie Setup Script'' its not clear what I need to do in that part?

Yeah that's right.
The only bit I'm stuck on is how to Re-Enable the USB ROM Transfer Service.
How do you do that part?.

Go to "RetroPie-Setup" from the retropie menu and choose "Update all installed packages" (This updates everything - you could also just do update retropie-setup script for this - but sometimes for new packages you need to do a complete update)

This is the problem I want to fix on my raspberry as my external hard drive is better then my sd card. Have you gotten it to work?
