Post-update, I need to add login credentials?
-
Hi all. I went through and followed a video on updating the .cfg for TG16 and Genesis. As part of it, did a full update of the Retropie to 4.1.13 and now, on reboots, I have to login with the pi's name and password. Never had to do that before.
Did I screw something up?
I notice on the reboot this, at the bottom of my monitor:
/opt/retropie/supplementary/splashscreen/retropie2015-blue/splashscreen.png: loading FAILED -
@infocorn must have updated from a really old version cause we changed the splash a while ago. Re-enable your splash screen to the default and that error will at least go away. You may need to set it to auto login to terminal in raspi-config as well

Thanks @herb_fargus.
I've taken a bit and looked on the Github/Wiki and it shows some scripts to run for login but nothing that I can immediately ID as the way to do this. Which part of config are you looking at, and is it one I have to enter the code for manually or am I looking for a specific thing in the Retropie configuration window?Nevermind, I've found it, I think. I went in and was told to run sudo apt-get install lightdm. Did so, and it now appears to be running the update I did last night.

OK, Looking at the screen in Emulation Station, is my choice "Raspberry Pi Configuration Tool Raspi-Config?"
From there, I see there's boot options (3 of them): Desktop/CLI, Wait for network at boot, Splashscreen.
I'm assuming here I take Desktop. This brings me to:
01 Console
02 Console Autologin
03 Desktop
04 Desktop AutologinSeeing that the Desktops offer a GUI, I'd assume then this is what I'm after. I chose 04?

@infocorn Set it for 02 Console Autologin and THEN in the Retropie Setup to Auto boot to Emulation Station (If you want RetroPie to open automatically).
-
@AlexMurphy I can't remember if setting the autostart to emulationstation automatically changes it to console autologin. May be worth a try anyways, if it fails you can always set it from raspi-config

The way I did it, choosing the desktop with autologin has worked so far. But now I know how to retrace my steps. Invariably, I post these an entire house away from where I'm working on the pi, so I never have the various screens right there next to me and I panic. Visual/experience learner over here :-D. Thanks again for your help. I actually posted a follow-up on the reddit thread of mine as well.
