Help with Rom transfer

I have about 150 gb give or take of Roms spread out over all the emulators . I can't seem to make them all fit. Its all on the usb drive just doesn't all show up on retropie main screen. Do I need to make enough room on my sd card. As well or can I make the Roms play off the usb drive.
