I changed a couple of system names (eg: Playstation 1 to PSX - Playstation 1), but it removed the points for those systems, so I added them back in. I also added a couple of different MAMEs.

        • There are many I've never heard of, like BBC Micro, Coco, Colecovision, Intellivision, Amstrad CPC and Odyssey2. How popular are they?

One of the reasons I really like the Retropie package is that it supports a lot of the more obscure systems.
I think the Vectrex is a great system (I own one) but the emulator is a convenient way to play some of its great games. (Though I have to say it definitely has some sound issues.)
I also actively use 2600, 5200 (when I can get it to work), 7800, the Sega 32X, the TG-16, the Odyssey 2 (a really underrated system), the Virtual Boy...

And really? You've never never heard of the Intellivision or Colecovision? Wow - there are so many great pre-NES games that a lot of younger folks have never had the pleasure of playing...

@LS650 I had the original Gameboy when I was younger (fond memories) and a MegaDrive when I was a bit older. I also have vague recollections of having a Master System at some point, but that may have been a fever dream. Next thing I know, my brother had a PS1, then a few years later I had an XBOX. Aside from some friends with a NES or SNES, I was never really exposed to any other systems.

I have a GBA SP, (still have it.) NES, Atari 2600, PSone and I'll be getting a genesis in a month or 2.

@mattrixk That's the thing, the Retropie gives you the perfect tool to explore and experience these cool old systems. To buy some old systems, say a Vectrex or a Virtual Boy, could be hundreds of dollars, but emulation gives you the chance to experience what they are like to game on.

Looks like someone has gone through and ticked every system. That's unfortunate.

@LS650 True. My wife grew up with a Vectrex, so I tried to get that working for her, but I've had no real luck with it. As for others, I barely get time to play games as it is. My Pi is mostly a media center for watching movies/tv off my NAS drive.

@lilbud: You reminded me, I still have an SP (the folding one before the DS) in a box somewhere. I might pull it out and have a go, see if it still works. I was playing an isometric Star Wars game, but couldn't get passed the Droideka. Put it down and never picked it back up. It's funny, I can't remember if it was red, blue or purple...

@mattrixk I had the clamshell blue one, I swear those are indestructible. Dropped one down a flight of concrete stairs, not even a scratch.

                      MegaDrive
                      GBAdvance
                      NeoGeo
                      PC-Engine
                      MasterSystem

Those are I think the must be inside systems.
Then there are Atari 2600 and 7800, to be honest I have no idea what the difference between all the Ataris are they all look the same to me game-wise.

And then of course the america-nised versions of MegaDrive and PC-Engine I think an alternative logo inside the theme folder should suffice?

I personally use 4 systems of which one I copied multiple times to create CPS, Psikyo and NeoGeo.
                      Something like this;

                      SNES
                      NES
                      MegaDrive
                      FBAlpha
                      NeoGeo (using FBA system setting)
Capcom Play System (using FBA system setting)
                      Psikyo (using FBA system setting)

That makes 7 systems but actually using only 4.

Just add a basic system selection in your theme and make the others on request.

Thanks for the reply @FlyingTomahawk. Did you fill in the Google Survey? If not, I'll add these to the now.

What's Psikyo? I've not heard of that one.

Yes I did fill out the survey.
Btw. I was not the one that clicked all of them. ;)

Psikyo was a Japanese video game company specialized mostly in vertically scrolling shoot 'em ups and erotic mahjong games.
Some of the shooters are Gunbird, Gunbird 2, Samurai Aces, Aero Fighters, Cannon Spike, Zero Gunner 1 & 2 etc....

I just like to keep my favorite shoot em ups in a separate system. So it is not a real system per se.

That's... quite an eclectic mix isn't it?

lol, yeah, I guess shoot em ups alone didn't do it and you know what they say, "sex sells". :)
I don't know how to play mahjong so I just stick with the shooters.

For those curious, NES is currently in the lead, with SNES a close second.

                                10 - NES
                                9 - SNES
                                6 - SPX
                                6 - N64
                                6 - MegaDrive
                                6 - Gameboy
                                6 - Gameboy Advance
                                5 - Arcade
                                5 - FinalBurn Alpha
                                5 - Genesis
                                5 - Neogeo

So, could MegaDrive/Genesis technically be in the lead with 11 votes?

@mattrixk surely the Megadrive / Genesis is winning... it's the same system! Damn Nintendo fan boys.

@AlexMurphy MegaDrive and Genesis have 10 each, so yes, combined they are beating the pants off the Nintendos (which makes me happy as I was a MegaDrive owner growing up).

NES and SNES equal on 22, but MegaDrive/Genesis on a total of 25. The race is on!

@mattrixk I haven't been this excited since... forever! The Megadrive kicks ass. My first console was a Master System in 1987 so I'll always have a soft spot for Sega. Where I am from owning an NES was considered weird, most people had C64s, Speccys or Amstrad 464s, a few like me had the SMS.

@AlexMurphy I was pretty sure I had a Master System at some point, but looking at the pictures on the Goog didn't spark any memories. Then I remembered that it was actually a Master System II, looked it up and it all came flooding back. Then I had a MegaDrive II after that.

Most of my friends were Nintendo boys, and I had an original Gameboy, so I was still exposed to Mario, Donkey Kong, etc, but the Segas will always have a special place in my squeedlyspooch.

Some real surprises here. Lots of Virtual Boy and Game and Watch. Not many MAME, but lots of Atari2600. No love for the 3do either, which I wasn't expecting.
