A Custom Milled Wood/Brass/Aluminum PiZero Handheld
-
Thats some top work!! Is that front plate glass?
-
One of the most beautiful builds I've ever seen.
-
@DIY.Engineering cant wait to see a video. I subscribed to your channel. Some good stuff. So off topic, i watched your 3d printed at-at walker. Can you tell me where i can find those mini clamps you used on it?
-
That is a thing of beauty...
-
@DIY.Engineering
Amazing, the things you can do with proper tools! -
I thought the first photo was a CG render... Fantastic work.
-
wow
-
@DIY.Engineering watched the video today. Absolutely amazing!!
-
@edmaul69 agreed - video was awesome. Amazing skills (and some pieces of hardware/tooling that I wish I owned!!) :-)
-
@BuZz me too. As a guy who has spent his life building and modifying electronics i would love to have the equipment he does.
-
Amazing. My only question would be "How heavy is it?" But it's astonishing to look at.
-
@Lyle_JP he wanted it to be authentic old school. He was replicating an atari heavy sixer. ;)
-
This would make an epic kit, i would imagine mass producing the acrylic face, control PCB's and injection molding the framework on the inside would be easy enough to accomplish. The outside wood casing and the milled buttons would be a bit more difficult to mass produce...
Maybe modifying the front face to fit the standard gameboy buttons, and using easily found replacements such as these http://store.kitsch-bent.com/product/custom-buttons would be an easier route for the buttons (feel might be a bit more authentic too).
As for the wood, i would be fine with plastic or a fake wood, but that's just me.
Regardless if this were a kit, i'd buy one in 0.002 seconds. TAKE MY MONEY NOW, haha. -
My God, what a formidable skill set on display here, including an incredible good taste. I'm awed by the video, just a little sad you didn't show it in action :)

Limited Kits and Fully Assembled Versions just launched!

@DIY.Engineering Fantastic!
argh!
TAKE MY MONEY!!.
Gone for fully assembled - My software skills are a lot better than my hardware ones.
How accessible is the sdcard for a fully assembled device ? Just take off front screws ? I guess it would be handy to have the sdcard accessible somehow - for example via an extension cable.
Note that the RetroPie premade image isn't allowed to be included due to licensing restrictions of some of the emulators. I recommend if the sdcard slot is not easily accessible, to do an image of RetroPie but remove all the emulators. They can be added back manually via retropie-setup by the user one they have their unit (although this would require a network connection via the usb slot or wifi if using pi zero w)

Wow! that is some amazing work!
-
Holy crap! Just. Just wow. I now feel like a total hack after seeing this.

Kickstarter is cancelled - https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/diyengineering/the-ultimate-retropie-handheld/posts/1823554
@DIY-Engineering Please can you get back to me regarding RetroPie (see my comments above). I commented on the kickstarter too a few days ago (as a backer), and got no reply.
-
@BuZz That sucks that it was cancelled!
