I meant we got shafted because we got the purple console, lol.I like the sleek snes that everyone else got.
So what's on the to-do list besides the 32x and purple NA snes?
Yeah, I know what you meant, I perhaps should have worded my answer better:
"I'm sure if you grew up with the purple monstrosity you're just as fond of it as we are of the sleek and sophisticated SNES we had.." :D.
I have a to do list in the first post but I'll paste here as it may result in requests for systems I may have missed.
Below is the current todo list:
Amiga
Amstrad CPC
Atari ST
DosBox
Dreamcast
Game & watch
Kodi
MSX
pc-engine cd
ScummVM
Sega 32x
Steam
SupergrafxCreate a 4x3 version of the theme

Sorry, I haven't seen the top of this thread in weeks I always come here via the notifications, it seems like your to-do covers the systems I'm missing. -
@ruckage
I think my only request isn't a system request it's more of a request for the theme. Also it isn't an immediate thing, it's something that would ideally be started when the system requests are done.
I'd love to see instead of the nes system border, all of the systems have there own border (snes=snes, genesis=genesis).
I'm fairly sure I've discussed this with you before earlier on in the thread though.

Out of curiosity, if we want to downgrade the theme back to the original carousel, or download the older versions of this theme, how could we go about doing that? Thank you for this amazing theme, btw. My family and I absolutely love it!
I was wondering the same thing.
I'm presuming you can retrieve older versions of the theme using github. However, you'd then lose out on bigfixes and other enhancements.
I really like the new theme, but I also like the old one (which I'm currently using) and it would be a shame if it were to fade away.
It would therefore be nice if both versions of the theme could be supported simultaneously, or instructions provided on how to "downgrade" the theme. Would that be possible?
The only difference visually is the carousel. On older versions of Emulationsation it will still display the old carousel style.
Unfortunately there is no really easy way to downgrade it, in an ideal world I would offer a way to choose between the 2 carousel styles but unfortunately there is no way that it can be done.
I will not be maintaining multiple versions as that could become a real headache and I feel the new version is superior. If once the theme is complete and there is enough call for it then I will consider releasing an alternate version with the old carousel.
That's a shame. But I understand your reasoning.
I wonder whether there might be a configuration parameter in Emulation Station that forces it to behave like the earlier version (i.e. ignore the new carousel styles).

Yes I meant the Super Nintendo icon on the carousel. I know the current icon is the non-NA model.
Because yes I also grew up with that purple monstrosity and loved every second of it so I figured I'd ask since it would complete my perfect build (plus satisfy everyone in North America).
I think releasing the North America Super Nintendo could be as easy as just replacing the image file right?
On a side note I noticed lots of themes I've tested have the Super Nintendo NA model. Some even using the PC engine even if you change the platform to TG16 which is odd because the pc engine was Japan only while the TG16 was NA and Europe - yet they use the NA Super Nintendo model which was NA only..... whaaaaatever

A lot of it would depend on where the themer was born - if the themer grew up in the US then they would likely use images of the US systems. Likewise I grew up in the UK so I favour the systems I grew up with.
Like I said though, I will be adding an alternative icon for the NA SNES.

Will you be adding video preview support? I love this theme! but the lack of video snaps makes me weep.
-
@Sashby I think ruckage is making this more similar to the Mini Nes theme that dont have video previews and maybe there are other themes that can fit better with this feature, if you ask me ...
-
Actually video preview is planned but I can't say exactly when I will add it.

Has anyone else had this issue running this theme since the last ES update?
-
I think you should release two themes, one for the NA, one for non NA.
-
Or maybe you could try to make a way to customize your consoles!

And why should I do that?......

Exactly. Not to be a twit, but I love how people think it's ok to demand the way an author should present their vision.
-
@fnkngrv Totally agree. Some of the demands here are ridiculous. Video support? Surely that just defeats the whole idea of the theme? People should be grateful that others give so much time and effort doing things like this and if you want something, learn to ask politely don't demand or sound entitled to something.

I believe that I asked previously a while ago about video support myself, but I also am willing to accept that it could come or not.
When it comes to doing a North American fork and Global fork I think that is a bit much personally.
My only reason to request video support is because of many friends/family that either don't know games by boxart because they are new to retrogames or because they just can't recall anymore what a game was by the boxart.
-
@fnkngrv
It's really easy to add video support to the theme for personal use, depending on how anal the person is it can be done in under 5 minutes. -

As I've said I will add video support but I can't say when exactly.

@ruckage
I completely understand that, I was just pointing out if it was such an important part to their experience it is as simple as adding the code.On the other hand it wouldn't look as nice as you doing all of the extra artwork to accommodate the video view.
I'm sorry if I rubbed you the wrong way with my post.

Not at all, your post was helpful. I just wanted to clarify as my theme setup is quite different to most themes so adding the video preview requires changes in several files. It's not difficult as such but it's not obvious where the changes would need to made.
When I do add the video view all I think I will do is replace the boxart with the video as I think that will work fine.
