Wireless Controller won't reconnect during game play

Sometimes if my Bluetooth controller (GameSir G3) loses connection while in a game I can't fully reconnect it. The sync lights on the controller says that it's connected but none of the buttons work. I can tell that the game hasnt froze so it must be the controller. This has happend on the PSX and N64 emulators. I was hoping someone knew of a fix to reconnect the controller in game because, somehow, one of my save states load without controller connectivity.

I have the same issue. I am sending this gamepad back and going back to my first gen Amazon Fire TV game controller which surprisingly works great with retropie.
