Currently it is very easy to see on the GitHub page when a new commit is made and you can compare your RetroPie-Setup version status with that, but other than keeping a close eye on the comments, there doesn't appear to be a way of knowing when a RetroPie hosted binary package has been updated. It would be nice to have a revision status list for all of the different binaries that can be installed via RetroPie to compare what has been updated since the last major image release.

      I AM ERROR.

Or even an automatic checker....say, inside the Retropie setup menu. Select that and have it check for latest updates and display your version vs most recently commit. Then prompt which you'd like to update? Yeah... peanut butter AND jelly sandwich nice!

This is already planned - it's a little way off still, but there will be improvements to the way components are installed/uninstalled/updated.
