      Hi,

Does anybody know how you can enable retropie to actually automatically detect and use either the 3.5 audio Jack or HDMI depending on the situation? Its currently set to auto but when i plugin headphones into the jack i get no audio.

If i switch the audio output manually to the 3.5 jack via the audio menu then it works but never in auto mode. Is there a solution to this?

Urgent answer would be appriciated as i plan to give a retropie box as a gift today and want to know what my options are before then.

      Thanks!

This is actually a common issue with Pis...think it has something to do with the way HDMI is used in the UK vs Elsewhere. (Something that under normal circumstances would not be an issue)

You need to edit your config.txt file ( sudo nano /boot/config.txt ). Find the line # hdmi_drive=2 and delete the #. Save the file and go into raspconfig and enable audio for hdmi. Reboot and audio should work.

@Freakadude do what @Syntaxerror999 said to do for hdmi audio. For audio through the jack you need to go into the retropie menu on the emulationstation menu and go into audio and switch from hdmi to 3.5mm jack
