Menu Toggle Gamepad combo Start+Select option missing

Hi, im trying to setup button mappings on four different types of controllers.(ps3, buffalo snes, nes, sega genesis hyperkin.) this is for my friends pi zero he is computer illiterate. On my raspberry pi 3 setup i have an option under the retroarch menu called "menu toggle gamepad combo" which lets me pick different ways to open the retroarch menu. The option to press the "start+select" button to open the menu is on my pi 3, but is not on his raspberry pi zero menu. I feel this will be the best way to access the menu and save states or exit the rom instead of setting up hot keys on four different controllers. any way to update the Pi zero menu to add this option or any ideas thanks
