Quick question regarding updating

Hi all.
I've looked through the forums but can't quite fi d the answer I'm looking for.

I'm using the retropie 4.1, now what I want to know is updating through the retropie pie script will that update retroarch etc or are the latest cores etc already in version 4.1.
I just want to know if it is worth updating as I attempted to do one but it asked me if I wanted to update kernal aswell so at that point I cancelled as I didn't quite know how to go about it. Do I need to update kernal? When attempting a update or do I select no.

@robmcc83 Just select yes to update the kernel too. This simply updates the underlying OS if there are any updates available. RetroPie is constantly updated, every few days in fact. I find it best to be as up to date as possible.

If you have an "out of the box" setup, then updating everything is usually the way to go. If you've done any custom tweaks to your system (patched kernel, software looking for certain dependencies/values, etc.) you may encounter some issues, but 99% of the time you'll be just fine, and you'll have the latest security and stability features of the OS.

Brill :) thank you both so much, I'll let it all update tonight when I'm home, the only thing I ever alter is the boot config to make my xin-mo work as 2 player and not just one, but I can easily edit that again if it changes.
