Emulators seem slower after 4.2 update
-
As the titles says, I have been experiencing an fps drop on SNES games since the 4.2 update. I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed this and if they have a solution to the problem.
Thanks!

For me, I have no issues in 4.2 on my Pi2 oc'd to 1Ghz running snes9x-2005. -
@Rabih any specific game? I've been running Donkey kong country with no issues on a pi 3

Which games are you playing? It could be a MODE7 game, in that case you need to overclock the FX chip. You can do this trough the RGUI menu. For me all games work great.

Did your default emulator change when you updated? When i updated to 4.1 a while back, the default FBA emulator updated to the new version and killed all my roms because it required a newer romset, had to set the old emulator to fix it. Reason im saying is because the retroarch updated in 4.2 adds in a new SNES9x emulator based on the current version, try setting the default back to one of the older versions and see if it speeds up. You can do this on the launchcommand script when a game starts.
@PetroRie Mode 7 games like Fzero shouldnt be affected by overclocking the FX chip, just SuperFX games like Star Fox and Stunt Race should speed up... BUT, i wasn't aware the SuperFX was overclockable through the emulator, i thought i needed a modified rom (which I had yet to locate online). I'm trying this tonight! Thanks for the unintentional tip.

Super Mario Kart did run a little bit slow for me on an older version of RetroPie. Just like you I upgraded from v4.1 to v4.2 most of the MAME roms on lr-fbalpha did work. You can download this romset trough torrent.

I really didnt notice any features worth noting in the newer versions of lr-fba, so i just set it back to lr-fba 2012 (or whatever year they tacked onto the older version) - fixed the whole set without needing to redownload anything.
