Updated EmulationStation for Windows
-
Hi! I tried both intalling the ES build from here https://github.com/Francommit/win10_emulation_station and using Retrobat, and I prefer the first, it gives a much pure ES experience, which also makes it easier to have similar setup in different devices (Windows + a raspberry for example).
I wonder if it would be possible to have something similar to this https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/runcommand so we can set different cores for each of the roms if needed. Right now I don't think there is an easy way to set the core to use for a specific rom or for the whole system easily without having to manually edit config files.
Thanks for the build!

@f-caruso In Batocera for the theme I was using in EmulationStation I now get inverted the "image" and "thumbnail", so where I place the image like this:
<image name="md_image">
what I am seeing is the content of the folder "snapshot" as defined in my gamelist.xml files.And where I should see the content of "snapshot" folder, which is whenever there is not video available, I am seeing now the content of "image" folder which in my case is the artbox:
<video name="md_video"> ... <showSnapshotNoVideo>true</showSnapshotNoVideo> <!-- Show thumbnail from gamelist.xml if no video and no default --> <showSnapshotDelay>true</showSnapshotDelay> </video>
Please see image attached.
Is there a way for me to set it up as in pure EmulationStation without renaming all folders or editing gamelists?
-
@f-caruso to me it would make much more sense that when using "md_image" tag on theme.xml you would be showing the <image> tag from the gamelist.xml.
It makes more sense because the naming matches, and because that's how it already works in Retropie so no need to break compatibility. Is there anyway to force the theme to use the <image> tag from the gamelist.xml when using "md_image" ? -
Answering my own question: the reason is that I was using the view "video" and in that case md_image behaves in that way. Using the view "detailed" md_image takes correctly the image. Its a quick fix. Sorry for the repeated posts.

@f-caruso Hi! I installed retrobat and finally managed to set up controls according to my needs.
One more thing I would like to do is to configure different emulators for each ROM inside one unique system, could it be posible?
Many thanks!
-
@space-invader Pretty sure this is possible with the @f-caruso build. Not with standard ES.
-
@diegopau What theme are you using in those images, and where can I download it? =)
-
the reason is that I was using the view "video"
You guessed it right. This is because video view is used as a "compatibility" for retropie. As my fork scrapper stores the box in the <thumbnail> tag & as Retropie themes with video view display the box I had to swap tags . "Video" view is totally obsolete to my fork as you can add videos to detailled views. It still exists only for Retropie themes retrocompatibility. Instead, you should use detailled view with a video name="md_video" element (or scrap again using default values).
I installed retrobat [...] configure different emulators for each ROM
Can you be more specific ?
If you are talking about changing emulator for a particular rom : yes you can in the "edit metadata screen". If you are talking about other options wait for the next release of Retrobat. You'll see a lot of new things...
Sadly, keyboard & joypad have to be set manually for each emulator.What theme are you using in those images
The theme is RVGM. It works only with batocera or my "emulationstation" fork. It can be downloaded here : https://github.com/Darknior/RVGM-BT-Theme
@LiveFastCyYoung
Pretty sure this is possible with the @f-caruso build
For your information : I merged my "emulationstation" fork with batocera's ES using my "batocera-emulation" fork. I did a lot of work to port almost all specific batocera's fonctionnalities to Windows.
With with release + some tools & a launcher ( see "batocera-ports" fork ) & some configuration files, this version will include a lot of new functionnalities to the Windows version : netplay / retroachivements / bios checking / advanced emulator & game settings/per system settings/per game settings / decorations / shaders / decorations in screensaver / theme installer / thebezelproject installer / start screen & game launch screen theming...All this will be available & packaged in the next retrobat v3 release that is currently in beta testing stage ( I can't give you any date, sorry : soon I hope )

@f-caruso Great! I'll wait for It.
-
@f-caruso Another thing: I've just tried Retrobat in another PC and the image is wrong. Could it be lack of memory? It is a Z8350 with 2Gb RAM...
Edit: I forgot to include a image...

Does @jdrassa or anyone else know why the windows continuous master isn't there to download please?
I had a build from a few months back but have just had the hard drive fail so was hoping to set up a new install.
Cheers

This sounds great! To use this fork, I'll have to use Retrobat then to install it? There won't be a standalone Windows version?

@VultureStreet The continuous release should be available now. The automated release has been a little finicky lately. Thanks for letting me know it was missing.

Is there any way/trick/fork that allows EmulationStation ro read roms/cues from subfolders and make them work?
I'm not talking about custom folders you can make in the frontend, i mean subfolders in your hard drive. I never managed to make it work and i don't know how a correct gamelist.xml with this functionality looks because all scrapers end up with gamelists that don't work.

@f-caruso ive installed your exe for windows, everything runs smootly and awesome, but ive encountered a problem when installing a theme, everytime i enter a game the screenshot/video are not correclty placed and the art.jpg or bg.jpg or w/e, is not displayed or correctly displayed.
The theme installed directly from the app is: next-level-v4-TMCTV, the screenshot/video can be seen but are mislocated and the background cant bee seen.
Ive also installed manually a theme called oldroom in its 720p version, 1.9. Same thing happend, everything works, but the background isnt displayed when entering the game info.
Any help here? TYnx a lot for your effort and work! :)

@f-caruso I just wanted to mention that some of the themes for EmulationStation (when using the Retrobat version) appear to have spacing issues. As an example, take a look at my NES page in the SNES-Mini theme:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FtiW3227m3YUUQPrcsO4gkb7zowxq-Rp/view?usp=sharing
Is there any way to make adjustments to any settings to fix these issues? It also effects the way text in some of the words appear on the screen (in my Comic Book theme, the word "Favorites" is truncated to "Favoris" and you can barely read the word "Choose" on the bottom of the screen.)
Thank you for your input :-).

To all : This thread is not a retrobat support thread, and, as I don't work anymore on my FCAMOD fork ( which is a retropie fork ) but only on batocera's ES fork ( which is a batocera fork that is to be in retrobat v3 ), there is no reason we "pollute" retropie forums providing support for this batocera & retrobat ES. So, I'm asking you, please, join either retrobat facebook group or batocera's discord server / forums if you need support for my ES forks & I won't answer anymore on this thread about them. Thanks for your understandings.
some of the themes for EmulationStation (when using the Retrobat version) appear to have spacing issues.
You are using a 4:3 resolution (1024x768 or so) for a 16:9 screen & a 16:9 theme. Change the screen resolution to a 16:9 resolution ( or use a theme designed for 4:3 ).
@alberion Verify you don't have the same problem.
the image is wrong
Can't help without any version information.
@LiveFastCyYoung
There won't be a standalone Windows version?
The standalone version still exists on git. But without the necessary scripts & new config files you won't be able to have the new functionnalities & it will work just like the FCAMOD fork.

@f-caruso Hi! I've been searching but didn't find the places you mentioned, could you give me the exact direction where I could continue asking you for info?
-
@jdrassa I apologise if this is a silly question. But is there any way of getting an earlier (2.9) pre-compiled version of your Win32 EmulationStation build? I just updated to 2.10.0 and my iMac (running Parallels Desktop) is just white screening, the log filestating issues with I'm guessing the iMac ATI card and OpenGL? 2.9 ran beautifully. I'm 2 years into an ES theme and I can't figure out how to get older version from GitHub!
-
NOTE: Actually if anyone has a win32 version of jdrassas 2.9 binary they could share I'd appreciate it.
