Emulator doesn't load game don't know how to view logs
-
Hello I'm new to all this and am having some difficulties understanding what to do next
First here is my info
Pi 3 model b
Power : 2.1
Retropie 4.01
Rey's image
PS3 controller
USB keyboardI set up the image fine Retropie seems to work well setup wifi and retropie manager
Added some romsI have added a dreamcast rom project justice I have two different roms one a gdi one a cdi the cdi won't even move to the folded in manager
Gdi did but when I load the game it just goes black opens the emulator and then goes back to file selectThe gdi also has several files with it that I added as well tracks 1 2 and 3
I tried adding them all at once seperate
That didn't work so I deleted it and tried adding it all together in a file titled project justice each time I restarted emulation station and booted the game same result kicks me out to a black screenI see that people have suggested looking in the runcomand.log but I don't know how to do that I tried searching the site for specifics but havent had much luck
Sould calibur seems to work fine so I know the emulator worksI tried exiting out of es
And going to command prompt
I typed /devs/shm/runcommand.log permission denied
I typed sudo /devs/shm/runcommand.log
File not foundI've seen users have this game working so I don't really know what I am doing wrong here
Again sorry if this is a newbie question
I searched the forum and bear answer I could find was check the logs
Which I can't seem to figure out how to do --.-Any help would be much appreciated

@sirkreuab Try to launch a game, when it fails go to the command line and enter
nano /dev/shm/runcommand.log
This will allow you to view the log using the nano text editor. You would putsudo
before that if you wanted to elevate your privileges to actually edit the text. In this case you only want to see it. -
I exited emulation station
Typed nano/dev/shm/runcommand.logIt brought me to gnu nano 2.6
There are options at the bottom for things like read ^R
Or ^X exitTyping ^r or ^x does nothing
Adding it to the end after .log^r
Does nothingTyping emulation station does nothing and now I'm stuck here :(
Thanks for trying to help btw
-
Oh wait I'm stupid looks like that means control plus r
There appears to be no text in the log
-
@sirkreuab You need to be aware of where spaces are used and NOT used. There is NO space in
emulationstation
one word. There IS a space betweennano
andthe file path
-
@sirkreuab You need to actually run or at least attempt to run something for the log to be populated.
-
Sorry that was a typo I tried emulationstation I'm typing this on my phone and autocorrect sucks sorry
-
@sirkreuab Well, that's going to cause confusion. You need to ensure what you are posting here is exactly what you are entering or you are just muddying the waters.
-
Right so am I running the rom by opening it in the dreamcast emulator ?
I go to dreamcast go to project justice and launch the rom and then it goes back to dreamcast after the emulated option screen -
@sirkreuab by the way, you you actually have the Dreamcast BIOS files installed?
-
@sirkreuab So, now press F4 to go to command line and enter
nano /dev etc...
-
I do have the bios I have other roms that work f4 does nothing on my keyboard I'm trying to find where my key binds are set in retarch to see why
That's why I closed es
To get to command prompt
The image came with preset key binds -
I can't find the keybinds menu sorry i suck at this I know I've seen it because urn makes me press select and n to cycle shaders
-
@sirkreuab I'll be honest, pre-made images are not supported on this forum. I thought I would try and help but if what I'm telling you to do doesn't work with your image then I can't help you. I am basing my support on the official RetroPie image. If yours is different, I'm sorry but I really can't assist. I don't know how "Rey" has configured this image or controls. Btw, Reicast (Dreamcast Emulator) is not a RetroArch emulator, you won't find that menu. Anyway, good luck, perhaps ask "Rey" for assistance.

@sirkreuab https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first - use an official image.
-
I only tried the cdi version of Project Justice and that works fine. Try that. If it doesn't, then get a clean version and don't be lazy next time with these custom images.
-
@Darksavior
Thanks for trying I don't know why f4 does nothing
I have the cdi but it won't load into manager -
@sirkreuab I've never used the manager. I use flashfxp (or winscp) to transfer wired or wirelessly.
-
Hey thanks really winscp on the cdi did the trick guess I'll use that to transfer roms
Also my f4 works fine turns out this wifi keyboard the Logitech k400 plus defaults the f keys to shortcuts and not function keys unless you toggle them with function
Which is hella stupid lolEverything seems great thanks!
