I was wandering if anyone could help in regards to Exiting the mamelibretro emulator by using a button on an ipac 2 controller which is in keyboard mode.

I currently have a PS3 controller connected and need to Press Start and Select at the same time to quit mamelibretro (or any libretro emulator). I would like to be able to just have a button on the ipac2 controller configured to quit libretro games if possible.

Also, I have tried to remove the Select Button from acting as the Coin 1 button on the PS3 controller by pressing TAB within mamelibretro and only configuring 5 as the Coin 1 button but the Select Button keeps reassigning itself back by default.

I have coin mechs in my cabinet and only want those to be the Coin insert option.

      Any help much appreciated.

      Cheers

That's going to be tricky with a keyboard/Controller setup. Allowing RetroArch to use function shortcuts without a hotkey is universal and you'll most likely run into conflicts when using your PS3 controller.

Also, I have tried to remove the Select Button from acting as the Coin 1 button on the PS3 controller ... but the Select Button keeps reassigning itself back by default.

This might have to do with which version of MAME you're using. What might that be by chance? The more information you can give us always helps. Requested information is detailed at https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first

Yup. If you enable the hotkey for a controller, the keyboard will require it too. So you would need to hit select on your controller and the esc button at the same time on your keyboard to exit.

What i do for my console i built (which has retroarch functions like exit game, pause, save/load state built into a keyboard encoder) is remove the hotkey from the controllers so the keyboard inputs work with one button press.

I cant exit a game from the controller anymore at all, but i find it helps with my "gamer ADD" haha, i'm not starting and switching games constantly since i have to get up and walk across the room to switch. Keeps me more involved... but im old school and grew up doing that.

But long story short, keyboard exit wont work if the controller has the hotkey enabled. You'll have to hold the hotkey on the controller and use the keyboard button at the same time. Disable hotkeys from both controller and keyboard to fix keyboard functions.

I have an iPac 2 in my arcade and confirm this is definitely the problem. It's just something you'll need to compromise on.

@ruxton_bruce the controllers use "input_enable hotkey_btn ="and you can assign the keyboard key to "input_enable hotkey =" then set both the exit key and hotkey on your keyboard to the same button. You will need to use the controller to get into the retroarch gui though since the hotkey and exit key are now on the same button.
