Pi Model or other hardware: Raspberry 3 B
      Power Supply used: 2.5A
      RetroPie Version Used : 4.2
Built From: Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website
      USB Devices connected: N/A
Controller used: pc game usb controller
      Emulator: PCSX-rearmed r22

when I need to change the disk on psx1 multi-disk games (like metal gear solid) I open retroarch ->
quick menu -> disk control -> disk image append and goto the folder home/pi/retropie/roms/psx
but I can't see any files in there. I know that disk image files are there.
for the test , I compressed disk image file to .zip file then the file shows up on the list but doesn't work.
      Does anybody have same issue?

What disc format are your games in?

        RetroPie v4.5 • RPi3 Model B • 5.1V 2.5A PSU • 16GB SanDisk microSD • 512GB External Drive

They should be showing up, but it could be RetroArch now requires you to scan the files first.

As an alternative approach, you may want to try:
            https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Playstation-1#m3u-playlist-for-multi-disc-games
            or
            https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Playstation-1#eboot-format-pbp-for-multi-disc-games

Either of those negate the need to append discs at all. All you would need to do is eject and switch through the GUI.
