      I am a relative NOOB to Linux. I am trying to set up RetroPie and can't seem to get past the 'No Gamepads Detected' screen (except by hitting F4). I searched the prior posts for Retrogame and GPioneer as that is what I have tried so far. My setup:

      Pi Model: Pi 3 Model B
      Power Supply used: 5V @ 3A
      RetroPie Version: 4.2
      Built From: Pre made SD Image on RetroPie website
      USB Devices connected: USB keyboard & mouse
      Controller used: None

      I would like to eliminate the USB keyboard and mouse altogether and just use the GPIO pins in my final configuration.

      I installed Retrogame and edited the retrogame.cfg file but I still got the 'No Gamepads Detected' screen. If I hit F4 it exits to the command line. The rules file with:

      SUBSYSTEM=="input", ATTRS{name}=="retrogame", ENV{ID_INPUT_KEYBOARD}="1"

      already existed. I got frustrated and wiped that attempt and tried GPioneer with a fresh install of RetroPie. It to comes up with the 'No Gamepads Detected' screen on power up.

      What am I doing wrong that RetroPie won't recognize the GPIO pins as the controller?
