Prevent power up on plug in.
-
Hey, I'm looking for a way of preventing a raspberry pi 3 from turning on when I plug it in, without holding it in a reset state if possible. I've already got a on/off switch installed and working.
Any help is appreciated. -
@cezza_gant I do not understand. If you already have an ON/OFF switch, why can't you have the switch in OFF position before plugging the Pi?

There needs to be a circuit between the power source and the pi that controls the power to interrupt this process. Any method that connects the pi's power source to it's micro-usb power port will always make the pi start on plugin.
If you use a dedicated shutdown circuit like the Powerblock or Mausberry switches, these will stay off until powered on when plugged in, which is what you appear to need.
If you're doing the simple momentary switch connected to GPIO as detailed in ETA PRIME's video below, there is no way to stop the pi from starting up on plug in, you will just have to shut it down after plugging it in the first time to use a switch like this.

@capeman It is a momentary switch as in ETA Prime's tutorial. Thanks for the info, I'll look into Mausberry switches.

@cezza_gant I use the powerblock, apparently both work fine

I also use the PowerBlock and it is well supported here. The guy who runs the place is a Global Moderator in this forum. Check the unit here:
