What is the MAME ROW?
MAME ROW stands for MAME Random Of the Week. We randomly select an arcade game from the 0.78 MAME Reference Set to play on the week. The idea is to play games we've never played before, interact with other forum members, post hi-scores, share game strategies, fun facts, and (the most important) HAVE FUN!
Notes:
-
We usually post hi-scores screenshots after playing with only one credit. If you used more than one credit, please mention it on your post.
-
There's no need to use RetroPie to join the MAME ROW! You can play it on any platform you want.
Every Monday we create a topic at the "General Discussion and Gaming > MAME Random Of the Week" forum section with the 3 random games to be voted. And on Wednesday we check the result.
These "rules" are constantly being improved!

I think I know which one will get @lilbud 's vote...
-
@meleu You suckers are going down.
I've been playing this game since I was at least 10, I've been preparing for this.
-
@lilbud sounds like we all need to vote for Tazz-Mania 😉
-
Never really played puzzle bobble and it looks neat so I'll vote for that.
-
Does the puzzle bobble rom need additional files to load? I'm using the 0.78 romset and only have the one file in my pie. Tried Mame2003 and Mame4all emu's with no luck.
-
Bubble Bobble for sure. I mean the charm of the game alone is a winner.
-
Well, I am already practicing Puzzle Bobble. Done with 1 credit

The info in OP says that you need the
neogeo.zip
BIOS file. -
@meleu i totally missed that. I feel my IQ has dropped 40 points for missing that one. XD
-
@buddyscott I had one that was only around 1MB, but the 4MB version worked. Might have been the wrong version of the ROM as well.
-
@obsidianspider i checked my rom a few times yesterday. It is that im missing the neogeo.zip file. I am setting up a new image right now. It's amazing how many little things I've done to my original image that I've forgotten about. These bios files being one of them.
-
My vote is for bubble bobble! The NES game was one of my favorite when i was a kid.
-
@buddyscott FYI this is for puzzle bobble/bust a move which is a different game than bubble bobble. Same characters, different game.
-
@tmntturtlguy Oh I know. More of a nostalgia kinda thing for the characters. :)
-
Got in a game the other day. Really great game though I doubt I will be competitive :-)
-
-
@mholsson Well done. If it's your first time playing, you'll get used to it shortly. I suppose the trick is to spot how to finish a level in the shortest number of shots, and be able to pull them off.
I understand the basics myself, though I'm far from a proficient player in it.
Still, I managed to get 2.858.210, reaching round 15. I doubt I'll be able to play a lot more, but it was fun - I mostly play it 2-player.
Still, I'm sure others will demolish this, so have fun :)
-
@pjft I guess the time bonuses really do add to your score. I didn't get many of them and I had 1.6 million at level 20
Also, Level 20 is evil.
-
@lilbud Yeah, the time bonuses do add a bit, I think, and I suspect that the number of "bonus" bubbles you take away also help (i.e. the ones that are hanging from the ones you pop, and are thus removed as well). Unsure if I'm explaining it right.
