Agreed we don't want to sell anything.

We also don't want any trial software packages.

Anything related to piracy is unwelcome.

However if you got people that want to write and port code or bring their games to retropie, join us.

Must say I'm a bit upset about the attack.

I'm not trying to make money off of other peoples hard work. I'm trying to earn a living from my own hard work, which I don't think is unreasonable considering I'm 42 years old with a family. The item is a gaming related Rpi case...I can't make it for nothing and give it away, nor can I just click my fingers and just produce it out of fresh air so I can "leech" off of RetroPie. It's requiring huge effort on my part and a significant investment which I'm having to borrow as with most start-up businesses.

It's NOT specific to, nor does it require RetroPie so the community shouldn't take anything personally. It can be used without it. Because of the investment and manufacturing commitments I need to gauge the potential market. The Rpi market in general I'd already looked into (as per @pjft post - thanks), but RetroPie seemed to be a good way to then slim that down further to the retro gaming market which is what I'm targeting.

I'm sorry I can't give further details on the product but I was sure people would understand that there is the potential for someone with more resources than me to beat me to market should I just reveal the details while still at the planning stage?

And I already do contribute freely to the emulation community as a software developer. I'm just asking for something along the lines of unique downloads (or active installs would be better) of the RPi build of RetroPie. Is that really so top secret or an awful thing to ask for?

I'm happy to answer any questions I can but I really don't want this to turn into a flamewar - setting up a business is stressful enough as it is!

        Thanks

@slikvik people are suspicious because of the number of people who are cashing in on RetroPie. I'm glad your project is not just another one related around selling RetroPie.

I don't have any real stats. You can get image download count from github API.

I don't have any accurate usage stats. You can get image download count from the github API though. Some images have been downloaded 400k times however that doesn't mean there are that many users. Forum has about 11k users.

@buzz Okay, thanks anyway Jools. I appreciate what you're saying. I did look at GitHub for a download count before even posting here but you're saying I need to actually use the API to get it?

@xeon who is this "we"? You do not represent the RetroPie project. Better to stick to giving your own view.

@slikvik yes. Check the github API docs. Can query it from a browser easily enough.

Great stuff. Thinking about it, forum users is also a great (possibly better) indicator. Thanks!

No problem @Xeon. As soon as I can reveal more, I will, and will appreciate any feedback.
