@Floob I haven't tested Sega CD in a while so I'm out of the loop but if you've tested and feel a change is in order than by all means.

I made this change to the es_system.cfg about 8 months ago and it functions for me. The OP and myself had the same issue loading, so I fixed it. I've not been in the scene for about 9 months now, so I'm still catching up on your progress and what gaps I can fill with work I haven't released publicly yet.

Actually I did a boneheaded thing. I changed the name of the bin file and forgot to update the cuesheet. Now they run just fine from the cue.

lr-genesis-plus-gx will directly load the bin files just fine, though.

@Zpectre87 I vaguely remember trying that and got the bin to load for sonic CD but I needed a proper cue to get all the sounds and music.

Yeah, without the cue it's going to be a quiet party.

                  Hi all,

I have .cue files for all my Sega CD games which point to a matching .bin file, and they all work fine with lr-genesis-plus-gx or lr-picodrive. My es_systems.cfg has not been modified from the default.

I don't think es_systems.cfg should be changed to .bin for this system, there was a reason .bin was removed from es_systems.cfg for PSX, as it just cluttered up the gamelist with all the track files and causes confusion. In addition people were launching .bin files and then wondering why the CD audio didn't play. And as previously mentioned, having a .cue for Sega CD games is important as it means the CD music on any games will function properly, same applies for PSX and PC Engine CD.

Everyone should ideally be launching from .cue files for Sega CD, PC Engine CD or PSX (or .pbp for psx of course), which is why .bin is not contained in the es_systems.cfg file for those systems these days. I think Jools removed it for this very reason.

I am not sure why you guys have issues launching .cue files though when using Genesis Plus GX though, but as per Floob's above thread, I had unusual issues launching some games (seem to remember it just kicked back to the game selection screen on some) until I used a very specific BIOS which I mentioned in that thread. Everything works for me, so happy to help if people are still having issue.

                  Cheers

Well lr-genesis-plus-gx certainly seems fine now with the .cue file.

Very odd as I'm sure it wasnt playing ball yesterday.
For reference, I'm using RetroPie 4.0.2 and have the right bios for the game. I'm not using a region free BIOS.

I'll update the Wiki to indicate .cue, not .bin.

Please read the Docs before asking a new question.

All my "ROMS" are .ZIP files, and so I changed the es_system.cfg to include .zip and .ZIP extensions. Works fine for me now.

Haven't ya thought of making a folder to put the .iso file and the multiple mp3 files, it is very useful to do it

Yeah I would rather the cue and not bin files listed. You can always add the extension manually though.

I am hoping that seeing as how supergrafx now supports chd format that it will make it's way into the genesis_plus_gx core..saves a LOT of space and tidies up nicely.

Won't have to worry about missing cues and no music ect...

People want things easy...but then complain that life is boring...
