      I have tried to upload a SMD file, which tells me it is not a supported rom. I have tried to place it in the Genesis, megadrive, Sega Master system folders (using web-based upload) and none of them will accept it.

      What am I doing wrong? This is a simple Sega Genesis rom...

      Please advise and thanks!!!

        @endor What tells you it is an unsupported ROM? Are you getting an error message? If so, where? My best advice is to obtain the ROMs as .zip files and keep them zipped.

          @endor use a program like winscp. The web program sucks. You could try zipping them or changin it from .SMD to .smd

            @edmaul69 Oh, I take it this is some sort of online ROM manager he is using that is giving the error message? Yeah, forget that. Transfer via samba or sftp.

                @endor Both are supported. As you can see here:

                  <system>
                    <name>megadrive</name>
                    <fullname>Sega Mega Drive</fullname>
                    <path>/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/megadrive</path>
                    <extension>.smd .bin .gen .md .sg .32x .zip .SMD .BIN .GEN .MD .SG .32X .ZIP</extension>
                    <command>/opt/retropie/supplementary/runcommand/runcommand.sh 0 _SYS_ megadrive %ROM%</command>
                    <platform>megadrive</platform>
                    <theme>megadrive</theme>
                  </system>

                  @jonnykesh they both are supported. But the web program he is using wont let you transfer .SMD files onto the pi.

                    @endor you can use "bulk rename utility" to change all the files from .SMD to .smd all at once.

                      Another option to transfer files is to use scp from the command line. You'll need to enable ssh on your pi through the retropie setup to do this. Good luck!
