Something I'd like to see, even if it is quite a stretch, is some kind of support for the "Play!" emulator, which is a PS2 emulator that's been surprisingly decent at running games on Android devices (well, "surprisingly" for android, it's certainly no PCSX2).

While I'm fully aware that it would never reach full-speed on a typical Raspberry Pi 3 (I mean, it can barely run Dreamcast games, and even that's kinda the limit of emulation on a Pi 3), it would be neat to say "Hey, this 35-dollar computer that's the size of a credit card can play Flipnic: Ultimate Pinball in a somewhat-playable-but-most-likely-runs-at-3-frames-per-second state."

I'd love for somebody to finally code EmulationStation to ignore “A”, “An”, and “The” in the beginning of a game title. Preferably just with the gamelist.xml display name if it can't be done for both that and the rom and/or zip filename.

@hex Yeah. I just replied in that thread too, but then I saw this feature request thread and thought I'd mention it here too. Drives me crazy that this feature hasn't been implemented anywhere yet.

On the XBox it really isn't possible because it does take some processing power to handle and certain emulators like NeoGenesis are already maxed out on resources to the point that you really can't play a whole lot of games when testing stuff before having to restart the system.

This might be an issue when trying to do this on a Pi Zero or a Pi B, but I would think that a Pi 3 wouldn't have any problems with it. Maybe it would be cool to also add an ability to switch this feature on or off just in case somebody is using a Pi Zero and it's too much for it to handle.

Maybe this already exists (and if it does, please guide me on how to use it!), but I think it would be sweet to be able to map bash scripts to button presses in the ES menu. This could be used in a multitude of ways, perhaps some better than others.

An example of the script I would use this with is to control music playback in the ES menu. I'd like a way to be able to change song rapidly, without having to log on my pi with ssh and doing this from another computer. I already have a script that changes the song at random

              pkill mpg123; mpg123 -Z Music/*

It would be even better if there was a way to input some text to ES in a way that could let it display the song name on the screen, though that's a completely different topic.

Let me think what you think of the idea, its strengths and weaknesses. Thanks!

                • Add the latest MAME versions (compiling takes a long time, and is a pain for heating issues)
                • Add RetroFE as optional front-end

Better theming functionality, better scraping, more customer UI options. The way it is now is very manual and non-intuitive.

I guess I could describe it as more of the features built into the UI. Something like I scroll over to Retropie settings and select theming/scraping/customization right there in EmulationStation. Not sure how easy things like that could be implemented automatically into Retropie.

@greenhawk84 ES won't ever be integrated into RetroPie like that. Other frontends are also available, and I prefer to keep RetroPie stuff standalone.

The ability to directly jump at the end or at the begining of any option list when you go past its first or last element. (just like in the game lists but for the option menu lists). It would make navigation in menus even quicker, especially while editing metadatas or having to go down a long list of option just to reach the last ones.

Maybe there is already a keyboard or gamepad shortcut key that does exactly that and i am unaware of it, but i just thought a "back to top" or "back to bottom" feature feels more intuitive and natural :)

Does anyone think that custom screen savers will ever be added in a more easily integrated way? Such as placing all custom screen savers you want to loop in a new screensaver folder the same way we do with splash screens. I know there is a hacky way to do it right now, but I try to stay away from methods such as that just so I don't screw anything up lol

@cjax08 It has been discussed and it will likely be added at some point.

@pjft well that's awesome. I wonder if that along with current kiosk mode plans will be included in 4.3 or if they will still be in development by then.

Been thinking about the OSD messages recently. Would be neat to have some more features with that, such as CPU/GPU/RAM usage, temperature, emulation speed, etc, etc.

The ability to have marquee's added in detail view. (for people who would like the option of displaying screenshots with the marquee tag instead of video).

Detail view = boxart & marquee tags
Video = Boxart, marquee & video tags

                                          Thanks.

I think it would be pretty awesome for somebody to port over the versions of FBA and Mame that are used in Final Burn Legends and CoinOPS for the XBox.

I've created a full list of working and tested games for both systems with a complete checklist and spreadsheet and working sets for all of the roms with all of the duplicates, clones, porn and other crap removed. Nothing but legit titles. US versions first, then EU, then other countries as always in my collections.

I know the Pi 3 is capable of keeping up with the new offerings of both of these emulators and that there is support for newer games with the newer versions that aren't on the old versions used for the XBox, but as anybody who works with mame romsets knows... the zipfiles for an old version of Mame or FBA are completely different with 10 or so years difference in emulator versions.

I'd be happy to supply the community with datfiles I could create with these collections if somebody were to port the versions over to the RetroPie. If anybody who is capable is interested in doing this, let me know and I can figure out which versions of Mame/FBA/FBL would need to be ported. :)
