2 controllers - select which one is player 1?
-
I have two different controllers. Both are detected in emulationstation and configured.
How do I select which controller is player 1 and which is player 2?
-
@rsn8887 Controller numbers are based on what ports they are plugged into normally. If you look at a pi from the USB end the ports are numbered like this:
0 2 1 3
If you want to override this and always have a specific controller as P1 and another as P2 etc use the
Joystick Selection
script from @meleu https://devhub.io/repos/meleu-RetroPie-joystick-selection -
Also @meleu I thought this was now included with RetroPie as of 4.3? Maybe I mis-read the changelog. Am I wrong?
-
@jonnykesh it's not part of the official RetroPie-Setup. You have to install it separately.
-
@meleu Why not? There is an option to change the font size in the console now included and that is just a command you can run from the console.
I think your script is something more useful to the tinkerers of RetroPie.
Have you submitted it to the git for inclusion or do you prefer for it to be separate? I like the new devhub page btw, I gave good feedback. -
@jonnykesh I submitted a PR, but it wasn't merged. Here is the PR: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/pull/1938
-
@meleu Thanks! I wish your great joystick selection menu was merged into the official Retropie repo. It is essential functionality.
EDIT: It is listed in “experimental packages” so installation of the joystick-selection is quite simple!

@jonnykesh the “usb connector order” is useless since I am using a hub. Also as far as I see it, nothing in a system should ever depend on WHICH usb slot I insert a device...
