Tried updating the script...now i have a big problem :/
-
So...i watched a you tube video by ETA prime and he showed how to add more emulators to your pi and he suggested that you update the script first before you add the emulators and i did just that but now i just get a black screen with a bunch of small text letters that show up over and over and over again. They wont stop running and i have no clue at all how to stop this. I cant find any videos or threads about this error. Oh yeah....i can still run and play my games but when i go to retropie configuration on the main screen every option i choose ( you know the list of blue tooth, audio, file maintenence, etc.) this black screen with the white text is on ever single option on the configuration screen. I cant get it stop. its been over a week now. Thanks for helping if possible.

@possum-master Did you back up your image?
-
ETA Prime is a ballbag.
-
@hyruleslink not really sure what you mean by did you back up your image?? I'm pretty new at this.
. -
@jonnykesh why so?
-
@possum-master Because it sounds like something went wrong beyond the point of return. You are probably better off starting over if you just started this project. Backing up your image means making a backup of the SD card image. ETA Prime has a good video detailing how to backup your image.
-
@possum-master He has no clue what he is talking about, gives bad advice. Was everything not working for you until you watched his video? Maybe that's a coincidence...
-
@jonnykesh I wouldn't go that far. ETA Prime's videos are a great resource for those starting out. And updating the setup script isn't anything out of the ordinary or anything you can mess up. A simple hiccup in Wi-Fi could have caused the update to go wacky or an improper shutdown and corrupted the data.
-
@hyruleslink No, they are not. He's a leech who uses RetroPie to make money but contributes fuck all and knows nothing about it.
-
@possum-master One big question is this: Did you use the official RetroPie image or something you downloaded from somewhere else???
-
This happened to me one time a year and a half or so back when i was still experimenting. I found lately that after updating the script, it's also best to at least update all of the core packages also before restarting to maintain stability. The main and optional packages can be updated later, but it's best to update to the current ES after a script update.

Your mistake was listening to a youtuber that has been known to be wrong, won't admit it or correct it, and will continue as usual. The docs are freely available.
This forum and the subreddit still get people with low voltage problems when overclocking because they listened to etaprime.
-
@darksavior Sure, views and comments = INCOME. The guy is leeching off RetroPie. Every time I see his name mentioned here it sickens me.
-
@possum-master he doesn't have anything to do with this project, does no development, and clearly doesn't know what he's talking about half the time after he does a quick skim of the docs I and others on this forum wrote.
