SD Card Corruption
-
@jonnykesh So that's just it. When I was having the problem with the 32gb SanDisk cards, I tried to download the image again, same problem I even grabbed an older version, same thing. Tried a different card reader, same again. And SanDisk cards are known for being robust and not as prone to corruption.
But I'll give etcher.io a shot, thanks
-
@demesauce did you verify the checksum?
-
@jonnykesh No, is there a linux command to verify?
-
@demesauce
md5sum /path/to/file
-
@jonnykesh Thanks, I'll give it a shot.
-
Still no luck. Used Etcher, it copied and verified. But while coping ROMS, same errors
-
@demesauce you probably should use something like winscp on your computer to transfer large roms.
-
If you can't reformat it and if it does boot up. easy way to check if the card is bad is loading up a game and save then reboot if it doesn't keep your save your card is bad.
If it's actually a bad card contact the manufacture first maybe they can send you another card if you have proof of perches. -
@edmaul69 I have a Mac and use Transmit. Seems to be a pretty popular option on Macs
-
You might consider running a program like H2testw (Windows only IIRC, not sure what similar Linux program would be) to verify you have good SD cards.
That sounds like the type of error you might get from a fake one (2/4GB SD card formatted to look like a 32 GB card and such).

@demesauce It could be that the SD cards you're using are not compatible for RPi or Retropie. Checck yours here: https://elinux.org/RPi_SD_cards
The list may not have been updated recently but you get a general idea that not all SD cards will play well. -
It's unlikely a compatibility issue - It's far more likely they have bought cheap fake cards, or they are possibly faulty. There are a lot of fake cards out there - make sure you buy from reputable companies.

If it was in fact a Sony card, it should be compatible. I have to admit, bought it off eBay, probably fake, like BuZz suggested.
