Hi, can anyone instruct me on how to remove a drive expansion on my retropie? I only have the retropie image installed on my sd and I am trying to use my 4tb external to run games on my pi3. I don't wish to use any sd card mem for games and I am getting an error in my retropie toolkit stating that I need to remove the drive expansion on the retropie first before I can use the 4tb external.

Just make a folder on the hard drive and call it retropie-mount. Put your bios and rom folders in there and plug it in and retropie will automatically mount that hard drive, just reboot to show the changes. Just knows the pi may be unable to power a external hard drive well unless it has its own power supply.

Doesn't work for me. Doe's this option work on 4TB drives? My HDD has its own power supply. Do you know how I can access the remove drive expansion script on my retropie?

Reload the image and do what @lostless said.
