HDMI doesn't work after update
-
@salaman64 look in /boot/config.txt and see if your video settings got changed.
-
Hi,
Both config.txt files have not been edited and are fully commented out.
I also have saved the original file to compare it to the new config.txt. They are identical
-
@salaman64 try setting the resolution of your monitor in the config.txt and see if it works.
-
@salaman64 I think this happened because the OS packages have been updated, not because of the RetroPie scripts updates.
Look on the Raspbian troubleshooting page and see if changing any of the HDMI parameters could help - https://elinux.org/R-Pi_Troubleshooting#No_HDMI_output_at_all.
Check using thetvservice
program if the HDMI connection is initialized and what's the status - https://news.screenly.io/how-to-automatically-turn-off-and-on-your-monitor-from-your-raspberry-pi-5f259f40cae5 . -
I hope you got this fixed. It kinda feels like a lot of bugs having been happening since these latest updates. I wonder if it is the rasphian os packages that are making these issues appear.

Hi guys
I tried the commands in the config.txt from the Raspbian troubleshooting page. No luck. Setting the resolution didnt work as well.
As I couldnt see to enter any commands in manually I reimaged my microsd. Then I could use those commands to turn the monitor off etc.
I think my only option is to keep the image without updating it and live with the ES themes which are avaliable and not to use the newer themes.
In the meantime I'll get a new microsd and try one of the nonworking images on it. Then I can trial and error that rather than the only working image I have :)
Thanks again

@salaman64 you can update emulationstation by itself to use the new themes, no need to update everything.
-
@pjft Unfortunately it looks like they won't work with only updating retropie/raspbian. I can install the new themes but there is no images on screen.
-
@salaman64 Sure. What I meant was that the themes only depend on EmulationStation being updated.
From your base image that works, go to RetroPie Setup, then Manage Core Packages, EmulationStation, Update from Binary.
That should do the trick.

Hi again, I have discovered that the only working versions are 4.1 or below with my LCD monitors.
When I install the 4.2 or 4.3 base installs they do not work. (The screen stays blank)
If I update from 4.02 or 4.1 to 4.33 then I lose my picture as well.
I have tried all the commands for the config.txt and they do not make any difference.
So I'll stick with the working image I have, I have updated it as much as I can with the emulators I use etc. Even though it would have been nice to have playble videos and favourites options
I'll wait until the next version is released and try it on my spare 16gig microsd. If that works then I'll update.
