Problems with chrome launcher on kodi
-
@brekdj Chrome browser is not available for Raspbian.
-
but i have not installed raspbian, my operative system is retropie.
on internet i read about people that did the same but it worked.. it's strange in my opinion -
@brekdj I really doubt that. First RetroPie runs on Raspbian and there is no Chrome available on Raspbian/RetroPie. There is Chromium but you have to install it and for it to work you also need X.org server. You have an option to install the Pixel desktop on RetroPie if you want it. I doubt that addon will work on Raspberry Pi without changes.
-
ok, and what about chromium? can you link me a guide to install it (the solution with X.org, i mean)? i tried to install it via superrepo but it doesn't make me install it.
-
@brekdj What is it you are trying to do? If it is to use a browser launched from inside Kodi to watch Netflix or Amazon video it's not going to work (well not easily anyway). Chromium being open source does not include the DRM software that Netflix and Amazon use. This is called
widevine
. If that's what you are trying to do just googleinstall widevine on chromium
.
To install the desktop read this https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/FAQ#where-did-the-desktop-go
Chromium browser should be installed by default. -
If what BrekDj wants is Netflix and Amazon Prime, he can install this version of Chromium, which has widevine:

yes, i want to use netflix.
i (unsuccesfully) tried to install chromium-browser_56.0.224.84-0ubuntu0.14.04.1.1011.deb that you linked me, than i thaught that i needed the netflix laucher linked in the first post, but i don't manage to install this one, how should i do?
sorry for all this but i am a beginner of all this :) -

You have to first install the desktop as explained here:
https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/FAQ#where-did-the-desktop-go
Then install the modified Chromium as explainde here:
https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=176402Then reboot, launch the Pixel desktop, and you should have a shortcut in the menu name "Netflix Launcher".

@rascas it may very well be possible just to install chromium using xorg without needing to resort to a full pixel install but I suppose the simplest recommendation in this case would be to just install pixel
-
@herb_fargus Yes it should be, I indeed spoke about Pixel because it is easier to setup.
About the addon, I never took a look at its code but I am almost sure that in either case it wont work. For example in the raspberry pi, kodi must be closed to use any other graphical application, it won't be easy to change the addon.
