Famipie from nothing to FamiPie 1.4
-
Hello guys, just posting to show my Family Pie Project.
So I was sitting one day at home and came up on video about Raspberry pi on Youtube. At first I was intrigued, and after researching a bit, I was positively interested.
Soon I was going about researching and found out about Retropie, and something that got me completely engaged were the case mods to put our beloved Single Board Computers.
I saw that people went about case moding NES, SNES, Mega Drives, Even Playstations, others simply 3d Printed some... And I was like... Hmmm That's one thing I can get behind of... I loved the Idea!
So I set out to create my own case for my Raspberry pi!
Firstly I thought about getting a 3d Printed one, but to be honest, most of them are rather lame, and didn't suit me. Next I started looking at Replacement Cases for NES and other old school Consoles... In the end I ended up thinking, they would require a lot of work and not feel as good as I'd like. So I decided it was time for me to start looking into sacrificing a real Console...
The Famicom came to mind imediatly! As a kid I had had one, but it was long broken down. So I got it out of the moth balls! Time to cut that thing open =D But when the time came I didn't have the courage to do it =D
So I turned to my Famiclone, that my parents had offered me a year later... Also faulty!
That husk of a console became my first Raspberry Pi Project.... Here I'll Leave a small visual diary of it's transformation into my FamiPie.Famipie 0.9 : The Begining
Famipie 1.0 - First Working Build
Famipie 1.1 - The first functional On/Off Switch, Working from the place of the original Reset Button of the Famiclone...
A small video of the famipie back then working can be found at...
Famipie 1.2 - The addition of a Micro Sd Extender Cable to improve SD card removal and switch. To make things easier I ended up hiding the SD slot in the Cartridge Slot for acessibility
Famipie 1.3 - Audio Jack Addition! Sadly No Photos from this Upgrade...
Famicom 1.4 - True On/Off Switch and True Hard-Reset buttons Added!
And to finish off... I'll Leave a small video of it working as it is now...
I've got some more upgrades planned for this little baby....
Famipie 1.5 will be More than likely either new replacement Decals akin to those of the original Famicom... That or a functional Famicom Cartridge working as the SD card...
Famicom 1.6 will be about making the controllers work with either USB or bluetooth...^
Final considerations:
I Feel like I used way too much glue on this project, but for my first project, I'm rather happy with it. It does work as intended, and on the outside it's awesome! The future will be have me go to the Playstation Pi, either a RP3 or Orange Pi powered projected solely dedicated to Playstation gaming, and a MegaDrive II Pi for Sega Gaming...
All constructive Criticism is welcome! After all every idea to make my Famipie better is welcomed!

So I went back to this project and changed the controllers from the old D-Sub sockets into USB sockets... Had to replace the old PCB with a newer one though, as it seemed to be gone for good.
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
