Did you uninstall the RetroPie core, then reboot, then reinstall the core, then reboot?

It should just be the RetroPie Core that you need to uninstall and reinstall. When you uninstall it, it should remove the "RetroPie" menu item from within Emulation Station after you reboot.

Thanks @hansolo77 and everyone for providing this simple fix to a mildly obnoxious problem.

@hansolo77 Hi, I just face the same problem. Do you mean to uninstall all core packages?

I know this topic is old but I'm having the same problem. I started with Berryboot and installed raspbian and retropie (3.6 i think.) I didn't notice if it had the menu icons with that but I updated it to 4.3 so it would be the newest verision. Now I notice I don't have the menu art and would like to have it back. I have tried the above steps with no luck. Well I did get one back and that was the retropie setup pic. the rest are still blank.

I fixed the issue by resetting my RetroPie gamelist to the default settings.

                          • Open /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/gamelists/retropie/
                          • Replace gamelist.xml with these preset settings
                          • Restart EmulationStation

Your icons should hopefully return with full descriptions.
