I purchased a raspberry pi3 to use as a emulator using retropie. I followed all of the steps by changing the micro sd card to fat32 then to download and unpack the retro pie file and after that to make it into an image, after that I installed it to the sd card and connected it to the raspberry pi3. The pi3 booted and retro pie worked! I did set up a ps4 controller and I turned it off so I can add the games using a usb stick, well I created the retropie-mount folder and turned the pi3 on again I got the screen shot below. I tried to erase everything on the sd card and start again but no luck. I bought a new sd card and I began from scratch and I got the same issue. I do not know what to do, I am afraid I messed the pi3 somehow. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. Thanks in advance.![0_1514908987718_image1.jpeg](Uploading 100%)

@bulletdodgerrr You need to describe the actions that you took exactly and in sequence. What exactly is your issue? How are you turning off your Pi? Pulling the cord corrupts cards. Where is this screenshot?

          Hello rbaker.
I cant upload the screen shot I don't know why.
Step by step what I did.

          • I bought a canakit with raspberry pi3

          • I inserted the 32 gb micro sd card that came with the canakit in the pc, the pc asked me to format the sd card and I did format to fat 32

          • after that I downloaded the retropie software, after it downloaded I unzip it and turned it into an image file using win32disk imager, I made sure the image was installed in the sd card.

          • after that I inserted the sd card to the raspberry pi3 and i booted the system. The retropie was working I installed the controller and i had to turn it off to be able to add the games, i turned it off from the retropie system. once it was off i disconnected it from the power supply.

          • I inserted the sd card back in the pc to add the retropie-mount folder and i added the retropie-mount file to the sd card, well i realizd it was wrong, the retropie-mount folder goes to the usb stick and that i didn't have to take the sd card out from the raspberry pie. I erased the retro-pie folder from the sd card and i also added the retropie-mount folder to the usb stick. i connected everything back and i booted the raspberry pie, now the issue began it would load to just a bunch of commands but that's it, it stays frozen in a black screen with three raspberry pictures on top.

          • I though i corrupted the image somehow and i had to option to unplug the pie3 since it was not responding. I tried to erase the micro sd card but the content doesn't erase from the sd card.

          • today i bought another 32 gb micro sd card and did everything again until the point of installing the retro pie image and boot the pi3 and i get the same image using a new micro sd card.

What does this mean? "getting the same image using a new card?". Everything you described that you did is correct. You booted into retropie. Why can't you repeat the process? The mistake that you made is placing a linux based image into a windows pc which could potentially convert it back to a windows file structure rendering it unbootable. There are easier ways to add roms than a usb stick. Network shares are easier.

so how can I fix this? I was using pc the whole time. Its weird because when i used the second sd card the problem shouldn't be happening. I cant add pictures to this thing, i drag and drop and doesn't load the picture. Do you know how to add pictures?

@bulletdodgerrr If drag and drop is not working you can try clicking the UPLOAD icon: 0_1514919474367_upload.png while editing a post. It should pop up a dialog box and let you select your picture for uploading.

it's not to do with your SD card. both should be working fine. i just don't understand what's going wrong the second time - you write the image using win32disk imager, and it just doesn't work?

try using the previously working SD card. you don't need to format the SD card at all - just write the retropie image over the entire SD card.

You might try another browser. That upload process says it is 100%, but the final step is that the "uploading" verbiage changes and is replaced with a path to your uploaded file like this: ![0_1514920317651_upload.png](/forum/assets/uploads/files/1514920318193-filename.jpeg)

So, something about your browser session isn't completing the upload process on this forum website, but it is working fine for me, so we know it is not the site.

Fix what exactly? I am still no clearer what you problem is!

I had issues trying to write the retropie image to the sd card a couple of times after there was already a retropie/linux installation on the card. I had to delete both partitions manually, then recreate and format to fat32 again because win32 imager wouldn't overwrite the card, it was wrongly making me choose one of the two existing partitions to write to.

Also, unless I'm mistaken, it sounds like you merely want to copy roms to the Pi itself, not run it off of a usb stick permanently, so just follow these 8 steps : https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Transferring-Roms#usb-stick
