MAME2010 RetroArch Issues
-
There doesn't seem to be much one MAME2010 and RetroPie however many of the romsets only support MAME version 0.138
mame2010 supports 0.139 actually, but close enough :)
have you installed mame2010 and have selected it as your default emulator using runcommand? do you have a full 0.139 set on your pi? have you verified it's correct via clrmamepro?
if yes to both, and if it's kicking you back to emulationstation after launching a rom, paste the contents of /tmp/runcommand.log here, and it should help us figure out the issue :)

https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first - doesn't seem to matter having it at the top of the forum, as no-one bothers to read it before posting :) Plus this is posted in the area that says it isn't for support.... I'll move it.

@dankcushions I have just tried to convert the romset (which was 0.138) to 0.139 using clrmamepro and no luck ;(. It loads the game up for a split second and then kicks me out the RetroArch menu. However, it is not kicking me back to emulationstation.

WARNING: the game might not run correctly. Is this because I am not using the correct version of MAME. The second game runs and does not return me to the RetroArch screen but I can't input with keyboard or USB SNES Controller. Which version of MAME should I use for 0.138 Rom Packs?
Thanks again,

when you say you've tried to convert and have had no luck, what happened? we really need more information here.
if you run it through clrmamepro and it didn't like it, then there's no way the emulator is going to work.

Does this help?
I haven't had any errors I don't think.Thanks again,
Josh -
it says 19 files? shouldn't it be 1000s?
-
There were 90 outputted files but only 19 input files I think. I kept the number of roms down so it didn't take long rebuilding thousands. Currently rebuilding 670 at the same settings. Have I set any settings wrong? I followed this tutorial:

you can't treat mame roms in isolation, or even as a subset. the roms don't exist in isolation. they share data across different .zips and are not standalone. you can't just pick one .zip file (or 19) and expect it to run, as it probably won't have the entire files it needs, unless it's a parent rom.
i would do the whole set at once, and always have an entire set on your pi

I have just put the entire of set one from
read the forum rules! https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/2/forum-rules
(around 2.1GB) onto the pi and still some games boot me out to the retroarch menu and when I got into a game that booted up (1945) it didn't allow me to define my USB SNES Controller... Do I need another vesion of MAME that will automatically play 0.139 roms?
Thanks again,
Josh -
set one is not the whole of 0.139 so you'll run into problems like i've described. the full set is way bigger. like i said, you need the whole set to satisfy all the dependencies, unless you build a subset of only parents, or split sets, via clrmamepro.
controller issues are something else. i don't understand what you mean by "didn't allow me to define my USB SNES Controller", but it's a different issue.

I have just attempted both Split Sets and Non-Merged Sets and No Luck, it still boots me back to the same retroarch menu. However, when I used non-merged sets, there were a lot more roms. Isn't there any emulator on RetroPie that can natively handle 0.138 roms?
Thanks again,
Josh

as i've said, mame2010 supports 0.139, not 0.138. you have to convert a complete set, and you should transfer the whole set to your pi, or only use parent roms.
you can easily see what sets each emulator supports via the documentation https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Managing-ROMs

I'm still having a few issues but most games now work
Thanks
Josh
